A pair of Buffalo Sabres centermen were absent from practice Thursday afternoon at the Amherst Pepsi Center.

Tim Connolly and Derek Roy were given a ‘maintenance day’ according to Head Coach Lindy Ruff following Wednesday’s 6-2 loss to the Florida Panthers.

“The indications are that they should be ready to play [Friday night against Boston],” Ruff said. “It’s just more of giving them an extra day.”

Mike Grier was also kept off the ice, still recovering from a groin injury that has sidelined him for the last three games.

“He’s not as good as we hoped, obviously” Ruff said. “He’s at that same point where Toni [Lydman] was at where it doesn’t quite want to come around.

“You start feeling better and you start pushing it and it doesn’t quite come along. We’re hoping with a couple days off it gets stronger.”

Lydman has missed the last 11 contests with a groin injury. Ruff said he has not made a decision on whether the defenseman will be in the lineup Friday.

Great. This is the last thing we need. I hope that they're both healthy enough to go on Friday.

I'm sure they're both fine...just given the day off to prepare for back-to-backs.

Yeah, I think they're fine too. I read in an article from the TBN is believe that Ruff is taking a different attitude towards bad games. Instead of putting everyone in the dog house and working the shit out of them he's letting them take time off to reflect and shit. That's what he did after our bad weekend against Philly and Boston and look how we came out the following games.

Yea he is not overworking them so they are fresh for those games.

I'd rather have a healthy fresh team then one who gets injured because of fatigue and being worn out by the end of the season.

Maybe he is going to destroy the rest of the team. Probably just getting them to rest their bones.

LOL, ok, I'll bite. Giving these 2 players a "Maintenance Day" = 0 for the team from them. I hope they enjoyed scoring on their "Maintenance Day" cause they didn't impress me any during the game. Oh, and they didn't score either, although, Connolly got another assist, should be putting up 5 points a week with this 3 game a week schedule. I am not impressed.

You are so Bipolar slesh.

You should get yourself checked out, because of a 2-1 loss in overtime you're going crazy.

This was a goalie duel, and Rask has always played against Buffalo well.
