Tomorrow will be the first time rehabbing goaltender Rick DiPietro practices with the team, Scott Gordon said.

While the full group will not be on the ice at IceWorks in Syosset tomorrow--since the Islanders will arrive in New York late after tonight's game--DiPietro's participation tomorrow will be viewed as the next significant step in his rehabilitation.

"Everything has gone according to plan," Gordon said before Monday's game against Toronto. "This isn't anything unexpected. We'd be disappointed if he wasn't on the ice soon."

DiPietro, who began skating in August for the first time since suffering a season-ending knee injury last year, has taken gradual steps adherent to a strict rehab protocol throughout the past two months. This development indicates he is progressing steadily toward his return.

After DiPietro practices with the team, he will eventually head to Bridgeport for a conditioning stint, during which he'll likely play 2-5 games before making his 2009-2010 debut.

He's at practice today...I suspect after Thanksgiving he'll begin his training assignment in the AHL, and if we has a few strong games will be back on the Isles active roster by mid-December. If all goes well, we could get a Marty in our stockings around Christmas time.

Dipietro has been assigned to Bridgeport for an AHL rehab stint, and is expected to be in the Isles lineup by mid December. Considering all the injuries the Isles are suffering, Marty may be back home by Christmas.

They had alot of young players, and now many of them are coming to their own.

Better goaltending and a bit better defense and they are a real threat to anyone in the last few playoff positions.

Tonight is Dipietro's AHL debut in Bridgeport. If all goes as planned, he'll play 3 games and join the Islanders following his Dec. 15th contest.

I'll Biron for Christmas...

Portland @ Bridgeport, Dec 15th.

Why is this Portland Pirate game being mentioned in a Biron thread in the Sabres Hockey category? Because it will be Rick Dipietro's final game for Bridgeport in the AHL before being called up to the Islanders. If all goes well, this should be when the Marty trade buzz gets really humming.
