To be honest, I hope he can never play again. He's gotten away with this shit for far too long, and he's going to continue to get away with it.

Ovie plays very strongly though, he often spreads his legs like that. His powerful skating often leads to knee to knee collisions and it is very careless, he needs to adjust himself where he can keep playing well without putting himself or others at risk. I hope that the suspension doesnt count the games he is injured or else he will have had no consequence via the NHL.

i think if you alter someones name to an insult, they should be run by rob first. he seems to be the only one who does it well. haha. the gonchar knee on knee, to me, wasnt intentional. take a look, he doesnt stick out his knee. he uses his shoulder, and keeps his leg straight. not stuck out at all.

2 games? thats a fine number. i hope he comes back and plays lights out. but it was a dirty play, and hes suspended. rightfully so.

This play was truly dirty, but he as others have said plays a balls to the wall style of gameplay.

His skating is also like no other in the way he skates.

I hate to see these things happen, but 2 games is enough for the first serious time he did something stupid.

Maurice Richard cracked a guy over the back with his stick because he made him bleed.

On March 13, 1955, Richard was part of an ugly scene in a game against the Boston Bruins. The Bruins' Hal Laycoe, who had played defence for the Canadiens previously, high-sticked Richard in the head during a Montreal power play, cutting Richard for five stitches.[2] Referee Frank Udvari signalled for a major penalty to be called on Laycoe, but play was allowed to continue because the Canadiens had possession of the puck. Richard indicated to the referee that he'd been injured, and then skated up to Laycoe—who had dropped his stick and gloves preparatory to a fight—and struck Laycoe in the face and shoulders with his stick. The linesmen attempted to restrain Richard, who repeatedly broke away from them to attack Laycoe, even breaking his stick over his back. Moments passed and linesman Cliff Thompson restrained Richard by holding both his arms in a lock, giving Laycoe a "free shot" to punch Richard. Richard then broke loose and punched Thompson twice in the face, knocking him unconscious.[3] Richard then left the ice with the Canadiens's trainer. According to Montreal Herald writer Vince Lunny, Richard's face looked like a 'smashed tomato.'[4]

Well, it's not like Rocket was ever the gentlest guy around. His fiery attitude sometimes resulted in vicious spurts, from what I've read.

ovie looks like a horrible skater... theres no glide in his game.

he reminds me forsberg, who was noted for his hyper intensity and competetiveness.

i dont think ovechkin is dirty; i think he simply HAS to win. and if it means stepping over the rule boundary to do so, he will do it. wish the sabres had someone like that (outside kaleta)

and heaven help the person who thinks hes a floater and lazy.

Everyone knoes about the Maurice incident that's why I didnt pull out any names from the 50's 60's or 70's. The game has completely changed. If anyone hasnt read the latest THN then go get it and read it asap.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwxTrxESWjI Your honestly gonna sit there and say that his knee wasnt out there intentionally. He does it everytime. He spreads his legs out giving himself more of a "bubble" so to speak. He does these things intentionally and tries to make them look non-chalent. If he didnt want to knee Gonchar he had more than enough time to pull his leg back to at least soften the blow. He never does tho. He just keeps his leg out there all day and he has does this since he came into the league. Now I'm not one of the people saying I hope he never plays again, blah blah blah I'm just saying world class players should play like world class players. He is a great player with a great talent but it's shit like this that make me wish to god even though I dont believe in one that they get rid of the instigator so pukes like him can get the payback they deserve.

Slew foot? Several knee to knees this season?

Guy is worse than Avery. If you're going to cheapshot someone, do it manly.

Atleast during a hit, you're purpose is to make a hockey play.

A Knee to Knee has ZERO respect for another player's career.

I'm not totally against Ovie, but if he keeps doing this, it is only warranted if he shatters his own knee and ends his career.

I'm sure a huge reason Gretzky never wanted to fight or do anything dirty was how small he was compared to others in that era.

A 6 foot guy and 185 wouldn't do to well against a fighter back then. Plus he was too smart with his game to make a dirty play.

I'm sure with Mario's size he did take some questionable hits and such. every player has some dirty in them, this year it's really coming out of OV, but his skating style makes it so others are afraid to hit him because what could happen if a knee on knee happens.

Gordie Howe and Mark Messier were considered among the dirtiest players of their era.

How about Bobby Clarke, especially that slash on Karlamov? Dirty bastard

You can't compare Ocrapkin with "The Great One" b/c obviously Gretzky didn't need to play dirty. His high skilled game, hockey IQ were enough to make the opponent fear him on the ice. I always said that OV is playing dirty but no one agreed. His knee on knee douchebag moves has to stop.

I also believe that he's a very very selfish player, but it doesn't come out to much b/c he's playing for the Capitals aka team Russia.

Again I left out names from the 50's 60's 70's as the game has completely changed. Read the latest article in THN if u havent. And there's a difference between dirty and hockey dirty. Did Mark Messier ever Knee on Knee someone? Maybe accidently but not purposely, he was never to leave his knee out. Did he throw elbows like no tomorrow? Hell yea that's what made him as dominant as he was. Did Mess use his stick like Prongs? Yeah everyone did in the 90's. Mark Messier dominated the game in 2 different decades captained 2 different teams as a power forward and is now known as the biggest baby as he cries at every ceremony. He loved the game and would never try to ruin someone's career with a knee. OV doesnt give a shit what he des to anyone else thats why he leaves out the knee. That's the difference between dirty and hockey dirty. BTW did Mess ever get suspended?

OVECHKIN SAYS SUSPENSION MIGHT GET HIM 'MORE ANGRY'

As per TSN:

"Ovechkin spoke to reporters in Washington on Wednesday and discussed the two-game suspension that he was given by the league for his knee-to-knee hit on Carolina's Tim Gleason.

"It is what is again, so they suspend me and there is nothing I can say about it. I am disappointed," said Ovechkin. The Russian star was asked if the ban would change his playing style, to which he responded, "No, maybe it just get me more angry," and he later added, "I'm not going to change."

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=300791

So, he's said he will become/play with more anger on the ice, eh? I really hope he tries to show some of this anger on a guy the size of Pronger or Chara.

Keep your head up, Ovie. There is always someone better, faster and tougher than you out there..

Chara, Lucic, Pronger, Kronwall and Avery are waiting for you fucking douchebag. Hopefully Campell read that and will ban this fucker for more games. This bastard needs a clean beatup to get off his "untouchable superstar mindset".

Ovechkin would slay Avery, and Kronwall isn't much scarier. Lucic would rip OV's ass apart, and let's not forget the Human Bodychecking Demonlord - Dion Phaneuf.
