Nice deal for Boston; unless Burke really can walk on water; and I'm not referring to the frozen kind. Burke is banking strongly on greatly improved Maple Leafs team. If Toronto still struggles, The Bruins will be able to continue to really stockpile their young talent.

As Ice mentioned, Kessel was in a great position to succeed with that Bruins team last year; and he's not a lock to produce like he did last season.

A short term upgrade for Toronto, however, worst case scenario.

Yeah, and Boston already has a nice wealth of prospects to begin with.

Kessel doesn't really scare me that much. His wrist shot is quick. That's about it.

Well Good for Toronto trying to get better, unlike some teams in the NorthEastern Division.

Good signing I guess, too bad he won't be ready for the first month or two.

that is a high price to pay considering toronto's picks are going to be lower. unless burke is planning on some how trading for another pick to get back into the first round. Boston is essentially going to get two players who can almost immediately play in the NHL for cheap. it appears their cup year is up and coming.

AS well on the leafs who is kessel going to receive passes from stajan, kadri. the leafs are not exactly stocked with many playmaking centers. i mean in boston kessel, had krejci and savard.

Boston won this trade, knowing how bad the Leafs will be this year Boston can get a top 5/10 pick in 2010.

Yes; Toronto will be harder to play against with a tougher defense; but outside of Kessel, look to have done nothing up front.

How ironic would it be if Williams and Newberry, the ex Marlies players, make it in Detroit???

A first and second, then a first, again - For kessel and a fifth?

Knowing where these teams will end up in the standings, and what the picks will really be ranked at?

Chiarelli just punk'd Burke, really good.

Yes; methinks Burke's obsession with Kessel will come back to bite him in the ass.

I'm not sure why, but the deal reminds me of Boston trading declining goods in Barry Pederson to Vancouver in exchange for Cam Neely and a 1'st (Glen Wesley.)

A fleecing perhaps....

When I read about this story I was like ??? and the more I think about it...well there isn't a smiley emote that explains how I feel. Burke...you got a midget who is protected by Colton Orr; who had his face broken once by Patrick Kaleta...in other words...can't wait for them to play a tough team, and watch Kessel live his life with his face in the boards.

Courtesy of CBC.ca:

Bruins GM 'very happy' with return for Kessel deal

"I'm very happy with the return we got," Chiarelli said in a Boston news conference Saturday.

The deal means that Boston now has five picks in the first two rounds of the 2010 NHL Draft. They include the Bruins' original picks, the two Toronto draft choices and another second-round pick acquired from Tampa Bay at the trade deadline last season.

"These picks are significant. There are serious players coming up," Chiarelli said."

Very happy? Yeah, I guess one could put it that way....the Bruins are fucking laughing their asses off. Can you imagine how this team has just locked-in its' future?

And they said dynasties couldn't happen, anymore. Burke and the Leafs may be getting all the hoopla and "press", but Chiarelli is quietly showing that he's really the brilliant one.
