Monster To Miss Time

"The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that goaltender Jonas Gustavsson will undergo a repeat heart ablation procedure on Friday. The first procedure took place on September 15, 2009 during training camp.

The determination was made after Gustavsson was examined on Wednesday by medical specialists.

Gustavsson played the first period in Tuesday’s game at Montreal and stopped all eight shots faced before making way for Joey MacDonald."

Not looking good for Toronto's chances - Maybe Burke should have had Gustavsson undergo an extensive physical, before casting his lot and the franchise's future in that direction.

Here's hoping that Gustavsson sees a speedy recovery.

Some media outlets are saying he'll only miss a week or slightly more.

Probably...but, in many instances, it can prove to be a lifelong problem requiring repeated treatment:

Regardless of his hockey career's future being in jeopardy, I just hope he lives a full, long life.

God that sucks, his career and life is in jeopardy... I'm surprised it only takes a week or two to recover from that surgery though. Modern medicine is amazing...

I'd much rather him living a full long life then backstopping the Laffs.

If he doesn't have to worry about his heart, he will be a great goalie for years to come.

Speedy and quick recovery for you Gust. I wish him the best right now in this and I do hope this problem can be fixed with this surgery.

I know what he is going through, my mom in the summer of 2008 had to have a valve replaced in her heart and she had to have this ablation surgery to correct her heart from beating too fast.

If Gustavsson needs to have this surgery again he might have something more serious done like a valve replacement.

All the best for Gustavsson, he can become a leading goaltender here. As much as I hate the Leafs I can't help to wish him all the best in the world. Life wasn't fair, nice to this guy he deserves to get some luck.

Get well soon Monster!

I want the monster healthy ASAP. I admit I have been and will continue to be fixated on that god awful Kessel deal. Boston's not impressing so far this year, but they've had some key injuries. The Bruins are just too deep, and they were going to be a threat for years to come even before the insane Kessel trade. Now throw in 2 Leafs #1 picks (and a #2). As alien as this is to me, I just can't root against the Leafs for now. I do not want the Bruins to get top picks, because the Leafs finish in the cellar.
Gee thanks, Brian Burke! Your idiocy has temporarily extinguished my ill will toward the Leafs, which is something very dear and familiar to me!
