Yeah, I hate it when atheists knock on my door trying to tell me not to believe in god.
;)

Good one!
Some Mormons or Jehovah's Witnesses came to the door one Saturday morning and woke my dad up. He invited them into the living room and had them sit down. Then he went back to bed. Not sure how long they stayed before they finally left.

Just so you know, I'm going to be one of those Mormons in about a year.

The irony isn't there anyway, considering they come to my home to try to convert me. When they are on my property trying to change my religious beliefs I will do the same to them until they are off my property. Then either they will be like "Oh wait... it kinda sucks having people throw their faith at you" and stop coming to my place, or they will notice that science might be the way to go for them.

Either way they stop fucking with me.

I'm just going to say this once. I don't understand why people say that Mormon missionaries shove their beliefs down peoples throats because they don't. They go door to door and ask if you are willing to hear a message about Christ, if you say no, they leave. They don't force themselves into your home or in anyway try and force their beliefs on you. The reason that we go door to door is because there are people who are willing to receive the message and people who's lives are changed because of missionaries going door to door. To me, the small inconvenience of a few atheists who have to come to the door for 30 seconds and say no I'm not interested is an easy price to pay to help convert people to the gospel.

I've had people come to my house once a week for months, even with me telling them to skip my address on their next rounds. They send small children so you feel bad telling them to leave. Fucking Bullshit tactics. And the fact that little kids are learning whatever your religious beliefs are before any science has been taught to them is crappy too. I'm not saying specifically with your religion, but all religions in general. Kids should have the ability to educate themselves before having a belief system instilled in their bones from birth. Most religions do not allow this.

Everyone please tone it down.

This is not a discussion about the pros and cons , or tactics and methods of different belief systems.

PuckSniper, thats only because we have to deal with all of the bullshit religion pushes on us everyday. No, its not like people are forcing us to go to church, but seriously take a look at the video link I put in my posts in this thread and also in the other religion thread. It shows what atheists have to put up with every day. I'm not allowed to hold office in certain states. My child is not allowed to join the boy/girl scouts. It's idiotic.

And religious beliefs are stunting the growth of sciences. Due to religion people still don't believe in the Theory of Evolution, which is as true as the Theory of Gravity.

Next time any Jehovah's witnesses come knocking on my door I'm going to hand them The Origin of Species and tell them to read something thats true for once. I'm sorry, but for me Christianity has the same credibility as Scientology, which has the same credibility as Twilight, World of Warcraft, Ghosts, Witchcraft and Pokemon.
btw I was born and raised a Christian. College education is what changed my beliefs.

I see nothing wrong with your post, and feel a little sorry that you were attacked and a relatively amicable thread became less than that. You stated your beliefs which is the purpose of the thread. Well done. I disagree with you to a certain extent, but well done.

Also, anyone who has a funny bone needs to read The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Wrong, and thanks for doing your very best to ruin a thread that had been extremely respectful of others beliefs until you and a couple others decided to flush the good will down the toilet in order to rage against those who believe differently.

The main reason being the lack of credibility of most religions. They are written texts and stories that people believe in. When I was little I believed in Pokemon and ghosts and vampires. When I was little I also believed in God and Santa.

I've never seen kids come to my door preaching but yeah, that'd probably seem weird to me too. What's wrong with parents raising their kids to believe what they believe? Wouldn't you want to raise your kids to believe that there is no god? What you're saying goes both ways. If a religious parents should allow their kids to learn about science first shouldn't an atheist parent allow their kids to learn about religion first? For me, I want my kids to grow up in my religion and hopefuly decide for themselves one day that it is true. Parents really can't force their children to believe what they believe, once the children are out on their own, as you can see from the many people just in this thread who were raised Christian and are now Atheist, it is really up to them to decide what they believe. People have to decide whether they want to be religious or not themselves, their parents can't do it for them, all they can do is raise them with what they believe and hope they find it to be true as well.

Edit: No hostility here btw Squanto! Just posing a few questions.

Sorry, I sincerely tried to have a thread on religion that didn't devolve into mockery and attacks of others beliefs, but the usual suspects jumped in and made sure that didn't happen. I should have known better.

I'm out.

Evolution is as proven as the theory of gravity. Sorry you didn't have the chance to go to college in today's world when they teach you the truth about why our species came to be. Our species is not the "be all end all" of the world. Evolution is an ongoing process. Yes, we are still evolving today.

You are basically waging an argument that William Jennings Bryant, possibly the best orator in United States history, couldn't win in a small southern, Christian town. That says something.

I think that's enough.

It's fair to say that anyone can read through this thread and find something they disagree with. However, I'll again stress that the POINT of the thread was not to debate the positives or negatives or any particular belief system. It was not to turn into a 'I'm right and you're wrong' discussion.'

When it comes to religion, I think we can all agree that if do believe or don't, you should respect the opposite viewpoint. It seems like we're getting away from that, so I'm locking this thread before emotions start running wild and shit gets nasty.

EDIT: XC got to it first. I guess I'm just long winded. :)
