"In observance of the 68th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Gov. Linda Lingle has ordered the Hawaii state flag to be displayed at half-staff Monday, Dec. 7, from sunrise to sunset.

The governor’s proclamation also encourages residents to display the state flag at half-staff at their homes and businesses on that day, which is officially known as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

The governor’s action is in conjunction with President Barack Obama’s proclamation urging federal agencies and interested organizations, groups, and individuals to fly the United States flag at half-staff in honor of those who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941."

Lest we ever forget.

I still blame George W. Bush for the tragic events of 12/7, and the subsequent wars of aggression in Japan and Europe. If only instead of imposing policies of nation building we had concentrated on winning the hearts and minds of the German and Japanese people, all of this senseless violence could have been avoided.

On a serious note, it's sad how few people today even remember the significance of the date that was to live in infamy.

Back to the topic at hand, today should be a day to think about those that lost their lives in their attack, and also to think about all those who lost their lives in WWII proper. Tom Brokaw has it right, they were The Greatest Generation.

A friend of mine was named after his uncle...Lt. John L. Dains who scored one of the first confirmed kills (for the US) of WWII, flying 3 sorties on Dec. 7th before anyone really knew what was going on.

I didn't mind the satire.

And that poster makes me proud.

My parents weren't even yet born when Pearl Harbor was bombed.

But knowing what 9/11 was like for me, I have the utmost respect for those who lost their lives in the attacks of 12/7, and those who gave their lives for justice in the war that followed.

Hats off to any remaining vets. My Dad fought in Korea, but I'm sure Pearl Harbor was in his mind when he enlisted.

I wasn't trying to make a "political statement", here - I just posted this In Memoriam.

That we, as Americans, should remember how many lives were lost on that awful day. Remember the sacrifices made. Remember the senselessness of the loss.

That's all. Just a moment's pause, to remember.

It sucks the entire Pacific fleet was there and they did nothing to stop the Japanese advancing on Pearl harbor that day, because they very well off knew they were there, but then again, the USA needed to be in the war and that was just the icing on the cake to join, had they attacked before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, who knows if they really would have gone to war or not?

But, I'm honored to be a Free US citizen because of those men and women who died during the entire WWII and Pearl Harbor, without them, we would not be free today. I thank all the veterans of the US military for that freedom.

Unhappy Pearl Harbor Day.

I highly recommend visiting the Buffalo Naval Park. I was very impressed and gained a deep appreciation for those who served.

As long as we're remembering . . . let's split some hairs. Pearl Harbor didn't get us into the war in Europe, against the Nazis. Hitler simply saw it as an opportunity to kick us when we were down, to pile on with Japan, so he then declared war on us. WWII was two separate wars going on at the same time.

No wonder Bluto was confused.

My father was stationed in Pearl Harbor for five years of my life. To walk the grounds where this tragedy occurred, even without visiting the memorial sites is a harrowing and humbling experience.

Pearl Harbor is one reason I want to go to Hawaii. I want to see it and let it sink in.
When my nephew got stationed there I asked him if it was possible to get photos of the Arizona for me. Little did I realize, that the actual site of where the Arizona lays is still an active Military base, meaning no photos are to be take what so ever!
