the book on granderson is he cant hit lefties and doesnt hit for average. but has good defensive instincts. BUT they did lose their number one prospect for an average hitter but great defender.

he hits for power, but not average, and has above average speed.

Mike; it could be worse - as an Indians fan I'm not even following baseball any more. I did see Schoppach now plays in Florida........

JUST HEARD MORE ABOUT THIS DEAL!

tigers moved granderson, because it is believed he was in decline, and wouldnt play everyday anyways. because of this, the yanks still will persue johny damon. the book on granderson is they expect an even worse season out of him then last year.

however, the tigers got the top position player prospect, centre fielder, from the yankees, who is expected to maybe start next year for the tigers.

so, from what im hearing, the tigers absolutely won this deal, and with the yankees giving up both their top prospects, it appears they lost this deal, while arizona also did well.

i change my mind some.

I'm with Howie, as a Blue Jays fan, I'm used to getting ass-raped by the Yankees. It probably won't be long before Halladay is in pinstripes...

Halladay's reason for leaving Toronto is because he wants to win.

He'll be in pin stripes.

no. he has expressed interest in going to the national league. apparently, he can hit decent. its also my doubt he will play second fiddle to cc sabathia, even though i dont find sabathia to be worth the hype.

i mean, hell. the yankees already cant afford to buy any free agents. hence why it sounds like matsui is gone, and perhaps damon. the yankees simply cant afford any more free agents without moving significant salary.

though, i wouldnt be shocked if he ended up in a mets uniform. but my honest to goodness guess is atlanta. they always seem to end up getting in the mix for these type pitchers. plus they will need star appeal with chipper jones getting close to the end of the road. st louis also might to take a crack at him.

It's not about being a first or second fiddle. It's about winning, baby.

He's going to be a Yank.

why wouldnt he play everyday?

in looking at his stats, hes not horrible. his average is pretty bad but 30hrs, which are bound to go up in Yankee Stadium, would make up for the loss of Matsui and Damon.

Austin Jackson, from everything I've read, isnt a superstar in the making. news reports are saying that, at most, he could wind up being like Curtis Granderson. Good speed, good power, but strikes out something like 1/4 at bats. in addition to Austin the tigers also got relief pitcher Phil Coke from the Yankees who is a moderately decent reliever.

your forgetting the edwin jackson portion of the trade.

and adam, the yankees have shown some interest in halladay. i know they usually get what they want, but not this time. they have nothing to offer after trading jackson and kennedy. phillies put together a solid package, as has the red sox. angels as well.

ironic name for a blog...

however, a package for halladay would start with phil hughes and joba chamberlain.

for this year. what halladay could very well end up doing is just sticking it out with Toronto and go where ever he wants next year. the plus side to that for halladay is that he might get more teams interested. with the current situation, some teams might stay out since they dont have the players to put a good enough package together.

in all honesty, while i would like to see the yankees land halladay i think it would start to make baseball boring. the yankees could pull a montreal and win the WS for 8 years straight. not very exciting.

halladay, as it sounds, will pull the ole sign n trade. the yankees might land him after all, but with a starting price of hughes and chamberlain. thats two dimes for a quarter kinda trade. also, new york would part with top catching prospect jesus moreno.
