So aloof is an assassin clue.
Something else that occurred to me was that he/she said the victim would be identified at 8pm EST specifically. Assassin was an hour late, so maybe he/she is in the central time zone?

Didn't you pick the assassin Schony?

Remember, you identified me correctly.

^^Yeah^^ LOL, but I keep forgetting. I've been in every round and I'm geared toward profiling and playing. It is killing me to not be an active in this round.

Could be true. :)

I will not reveal what I know or assist in the identification of the assassin since I have information not available to everyone else.

This is some kind of clue to the identity of the assassin.

I'm going to be working on this all night. With Schony out this round, I've gotta step my game up.

If I take each letter in a numbered box, starting with across, then moving on to down, I come up with this:

HASCAAATPEBG

HNSTOAVV

I'm not sure if this is the right direction though, as the assassin said we had to have every word correct. Since apart and aloof both start with A, then it wouldn't have made a difference.

And seeing how the assassin said we had to have every single word correct, there must be another approach.

I've seen Mechaphil floating around here A LOT without posting.

I'm curious. That engine was a MECHAnical combustion engine.

In a cross word, you have to FILL (phil) in the blanks.

I need to see if I can find more ties.

for the cross word, if it was just to fill in the blanks then whether the answers were right or not wouldnt make much of a difference.

it would have to do with the actual words used in the puzzle. either the clues or the answers.

I don't know, Phil. You participated in other rounds, and you've been curiously quiet in this one. :D

Oh I know there's logic behind the game. It's still a fill in the blank game though, like sudoku or hangman.

But Phil says it isn't him. Can you think of any ties for the dot.com thing he did?

I wonder what the mistake was that Squanto mentioned.

I know what Squanto was talking about, which is why I've sworn myself to a vow of silence for this round. That's why I'm lurking in this one, instead of doing my usual freelancer thing.

He mentioned this mistake shortly after I speculated that since the victim announcement was an hour late, maybe the Assassin is in the central time zone.
