Sabres expect RW Grier to rejoin team by weekend; LW Gaustad resumes skating

"BUFFALO, N.Y. - Sabres veteran forward Mike Grier is expected to rejoin the team this weekend after being excused because of an illness in his family.

Coach Lindy Ruff said after practice Thursday that Grier is expected to return for Buffalo's game at the New York Rangers on Saturday. Grier will miss his third game on Friday, when Buffalo hosts Chicago.

Forward Paul Gaustad skated with his teammates on Thursday for the first time since hurting his knee last month.

Gaustad has missed six games, and there is no timetable yet on his return.

First-line centre Tim Connolly left practice early because of a sore hip, but is expected to play against the Blackhawks."

Grier be praised!

Good to see the Gaustad is back on the ice skating. I hope Grier's mom is doing alright.

It will be good to have Grier back on the ice, and hopefully Momma Grier is doing well - We need retribution against the Rags for that last debacle!

Good that goose is skating again - what do you think, maybe a week? Hard to tell with the in depth injury analysis we receive.

Well, that's the first I've even heard it that she passed. Everything said she was sick, that was it.

Yea, all I heard was she was sick, because if she was that sick a week ago, Grier would have left earlier.

Tough to lose a parent; just as tough to bury one. My sincere condolences to the Grier family if she indeed passed, which seems to be the case....... :|

Sounds like Cancer, quite possibly, then. Glad he got to say goodbye. I didn't get home in time to say goodbye to my Dad years ago, and it stills upsets me 20+ years later.

Lindy addressed it as well. Apparently the team asked for a moment of silence in the arena for Mrs. Grier.

RIP.
