Since it's not some sort of speculation report, I felt it was appropriate to post this.

Satan, Afinogenov, Campbell and Connolly being on this list is tear worthy. And what the hell is up with Vanek being ranked higher than Drury?

Connolly's entire career has been plagued by injuries, which prevented him from being any higher on this list.

So his four or five straight years with the Islanders where he played an average of 80 games in those years isn't his ENTIRE career or was he referring to his entire Career only being the time he spent in Buffalo?

People need to learn to spellcheck and check facts.

Regardless, it was classless of the Sabres to pretty much state that they were going after who they thought the better player was, or in other words, not Briere.

Actually, it wasn't classless, and it wasn't about who the better player was.

We couldn't afford to keep them both, and management decided which player was the right one to build a team around. It wasn't a slap in the face or anything personal.

True, but they failed at getting a contract done in the month they had also to do it.

The Sabres failed in that regards, but the team right now, is better because of their blunders and us missing the playoffs.

I think they learned their lesson about when to start contract negotiations too.

Yea, but look at the bright side of losing those two, we gained Myers, We gained Gerbe, and we gained Ennis, because of missing the playoffs. I think Enroth also.

actually, connolly only played 2 seasons with the islanders, and his first several seasons in buffalo were injury free.

My bad, I just knew the four seasons before the lockout he had played in at least 80 games in each of those four seasons.

We were also able to keep Miller, and we negotiated contracts with him, Pominville, Roy, etc. long before necessary.

They screwed up and learned from their mistake. They moved on. Regier gets things done now. It's in the past and not at all applicable to what this team or the management is today.

I'm adding to your post, not contradicting it. ;)

Yep, they learned their lesson so well that they WAY overpaid Jochen Hecht and they most likely way underpaid Campbell when he asked for $5 million a year. Think about it..... we didn't pay Campbell because we paid Hecht..... wow.

Hindsight is 20/20. The Sabres have done this before where they decided to pay one play and had to let another walk because of it. The reason JP Dumont left was essentially because they Sabres chose to pay Kalinin instead of him...now thats a dropoff!

If you ask me, Soupy still isn't worth $5 mil so it doesn't matter anyways. Skerea is better than Soupy at this stage of his career and in 3 years people will be happy we didn't pay him to stay here.

I think it was Kotalik we kept. Still a drop off, but not of Kalinin-esque proportions. At least we got some shootout goals out of him. ;)

Oh so true, plus you also get these guys about a discount when you sign them during the season. Think about what Chicago just pulled off...6.3M a piece for Toews and Kane...those guys easily would have pulled 7+ on the open market. They saved about 1.5M in my estimation by signing them now, thats a pretty decent 3rd line checking player they can bring in with that savings.

I've never been a fan of trying to retain your stars in the off season, especially when teams begin to get desperate to win now...they'll throw a ton of money at a player, and regardless of what we think of hockey players as people...it's a business, and in business money now, is always taken over potential money later

Campbell, we have Myers, and Myers already has more points than Campbell does right now, and Myers can play defense.

I wonder if players like Drury look back with any regrets at all after they switch teams for the big paycheck, and then realize they would've had more on-ice success if they stayed.

I doubt it, but I still wonder. Either way...to hell with him...he's Ranger.

Same for Briere, Campbell, etc.

Both players would have been overpaid regardless... imo.
