Shootouts are not REALLY part of the game.

It is as silly as soccer. Playing a 90 minute defensive game to be decided by which goalie can GUESS and make 1 stop in the shootout.

Guys that win you games, like Grier, Gaustad, etc...do not participate in shootouts.

Players that suck...like Kotalik, can win you games in shootouts, which shouldn't happen.

1 on 1 with a goalie seems very generic to me. Hockey is about physicality, which is not displayed in the shootout.

I'm with Adam. Remove the point, players will try HARD to score that goal. Exciting hockey.

Not enough shootouts, they should just go into the shootout at the end of the game regardless of the score, because they should scrap the score and decide the game in a shootout, also should start a game with a shootout, and scrap those goals because they don't matter either.

Shootout suck because you win a game without getting a goal, a loss is counted towards the goalies stats even though there goals against and save percentage is not affected, they take forever to start with the zamboni crap etc.

In a perfect world every game would be over in regulation and OT wouldn't exist because every team would end the game, but it's not. And it is unreasonable to think they could do continuous OT in the regular season. You would have so many players injured or scratched because of terrible fatigue night in and night out.

This system works, the points could be taken away and they could just go with some sort of win/loss for standings.

I think we should do the thing as many people have suggested. 4-4 5 mins 3-3 5 mins, shoootout. or you can keep going down HAHA 2-2, 1-1...if not the goalies have to try to score on one another =] :D
