---The NHL is not -- repeat, not -- suspending Ottawa's Jarkko Ruutu for his hit last night on Patrick Kaleta. Lindy Ruff and the players are extemely upset about the hit and expected a suspension (they spoke to the media before news leaked out that Ruutu is only getting fined). As for Kaleta, Ruff said he's having some vision issues and there's no timetable yet on his return but did seem to indicate Kaleta may be back sooner than you thought first watching the hit.

"We'll wait and see how he's doing tomorrow," Ruff said. "[Having no timetable] doesn't have to mean he has to miss time."

"He has a background for that type of stuff," captain Craig Rivet said of Ruutu, who got suspended for taking a chomp out of Andrew Peters' finger here last year. "How he's not ejected from the game is beyond me. They're talking about taking head shots out and you look at it on the replay, it's just a total blatant [hit] that he was going for his head."

---Paul Gaustad will be back in the Sabres' lineup Friday against Toronto after missing 10 games with a knee injury suffered Nov. 27 in Philadelphia. That should be a huge boost for the Sabres' power play and their success rate on faceoffs, which has suffered a huge drop since Gaustad went out of the lineup.

Looks like Lalime is getting the start against Pittsburgh on Saturday, from that article.

Wait...whats the logic behind playing miller against the leafs, and lalime against the pens? Shouldnt it be the other way around? Put miller in net against the better team, and when the sabres are a bit tired from the night before?

Lalime's one of the players that was/is sick.

Yeah, Jael has a point... Lalime is one of the player's that has food poisoning, which could have had a factor into Lindy's decision to start him on Saturday rather than Friday.

It no doubt played a factor into Lindy's decision however maybe give Lalime the extra day's rest play Miller both nights and play Lalime on monday against the Leafs once again? Or if he's feeling perfectly fine tomorrow why not just still play him? I rather have miller in net against the pens

Oh sooo do I. My issue was, why wasn't a little street justice doled out during the game??? No one dropped them with Ruutu, no one did anything to him. I don't know if I believe that the Sabres will take care of business during the next game.

Kaleta hits hard when there's no bad blood between an opponent.. Now with a huge chip on his shoulder, I can't wait to see him in the next Sens game.. He's gonna be looking for blood.. Actually I can't wait to see the whole team play em, Im sure they're all really angry right now..

If I were the Sens, I wouldn't be looking forward to playing the Sabres for the rest of the year..

Goose being back makes my day better.

If they were furious, why didn't they do anything about it? Give me a break.

Lalime starting against the Pens is scary.

Sigh, I'd really like to believe that the guys are actually pissed, and that they'll bring the pain against the sens next game.

What I think will happen: The team will play like they couldnt care less about the hit. And kaleta will play a bit scared, with his head on a swivel. Crap I hope i'm wrong.

Kaleta will really have his head on a swivel now that he realizes none of his teammates will stand up for him...

Nah. We said this last year, too. He played the same even after his big injury.

But this all still begs Sabresindc's question: Why did no one go after Ruutu during the game?? Even if they didn't beat on him, why wasn't he a target of opportunity for checks?

Do we write this all off to the food poisoning epidemic? :(

Relax.

If you didn't notice; Kaleta went looking for Ruutu early. Ruutu got him first.

Lesson learned by a young player.

Paybacks are a bitch....
