Cannabis has been cultivated in Asia for HUNDREDS of years. You can't be that naive to think that the dealers and drug cartels would find a way to make stronger weed than the government is already getting out in certain medical states? The government stuff is perfectly cultivated and alot better than the street shit you can get anyway. If the government was doing it it would be a ton safer because you would know what your getting and wouldn't have to worry about seeing a sketchy dealer and possibly coming in contact with other drugs.
Bingo.
It's insane to think the cartels would keep trying to do things illegally when, if cannabis were legalized, they could become filthy rich legally.
If anything, it would cut down on the trafficking of more dangerous drugs because they have a whole new legal industry to take part in.
The main reason these cartels get into drugs is for the money. If a cannabis industry is created, not only for smoking, but also for cannabis fiber as a raw material, we're talking billions of dollars and thousands of jobs.
Potentially trillions. If you think about how many people who have doctorates in botany and how much they would make and how many 'mom and pop's marijuana bungalo"'s would pop up and how much more fertilizer, chemicals, soil and other things would sell, this could be a huge industry.
But here's where the issue lies.
THE GOVERNMENT CANNOT TAX IT
Booze, hard to make, doesnt usually turn out good, and not worth it in the end.
Tobacco only flurishes in certain parts of the country and hard to get done properly
Marijuana, grows anywhere, easily adapts, able to be grown in and out doors and easier to cultivate than a corn stalk.
Therefore, will never happen.
