For the Sabres, Saturday's not alright for fighting...or anything else related to hockey.

Our record for Saturday night games this year is 5-5-2, compared to 16-5-1 for games on all other days of the week combined. There is no other night in which we have a losing record (we are 6-1-1 on Friday nights).

Could it be that the Sabres are not getting enough sleep?

I don't know what the Sabres skating schedule is on Saturdays, but there is an interesting article in today's New York Times about NBA teams that have eliminated the morning shoot-around on the second day of back-to-back games. Doc Rivers was the first to drop the tradition and his Celtics are 20-5.

Maybe the boys need a nap.

...and they do get enough sleep on back-to-back nights during the regular week? Funny, that.

Sounds like bed-checks are in order. Problem solved.

...I'm less concerned by their Circadian clocks/rhythms than I am their Friday-night activities, which contribute to their "lack of sleep".

Don't get me wrong; If you're winning, I don't give a crap what you do...it's when you're losing that one has to consider your judgment and it's consequences.

There have been no other back-to-back nights, except Friday/Saturday so far this season. The Sabres have had eight back-to-back games this year and all have been Friday/Saturday.

Now, they have lost two Saturday games when they didn't play on Friday night (the season opener vs. the Habs and against the Rangers earlier this month) and they have won three times on Saturday after playing on Friday, but there is definitely something going on here that the coaching staff needs to address.

The Sabres have nine more Saturday games left in the season, but only four are the second of back-to-back games, so the worst is behind us, unless the problem isn't back-to-back games, but rather some kind of weird Saturday night curse.

They're not partying on Friday nights, after all.

Edit:
Has this been the case for previous seasons? If so, there's a lot of misplaced criticism, to say the least.

Well, they won the pre-season Sunday night game, after having lost the Saturday game...Okay. I'm stretching.

We'll get to see them play some Sunday-Monday back-to-backs, pretty soon.

I'll pin my mouth on those results. Let's hope the "Chippewa Flu" has nothing to do with it. It would be far too disappointing to realize that nothing's changed.
