Polish police have found the sign, cut up into three pieces. They have five men in custody.
As to painting all Germans with the Nazi brush, I don't get too worried about the political sensitivity of that. Most Germans did support the Nazis. There was little to no domestic dissent during the war.
Certainly everyday Germans noticed that their neighbors were disappearing. Nazism was not a small political group holding an unwilling population captive. It had broad German appeal.
It's not that there was anything better to be then a Nazi during the 30's and 40's in Germany.
Say all the bad things they did, and yes they were terrible, but Germany was a very prosperous country before the war, they were the first to get out of a depression, yes what the SS and Hitler did was an atrocious act out against humanity the Nazi party made Germany into something then.
What German didn't want the prosperity of being a Nazi really? The holocaust was still a huge secret anyways, the camps were away from civilians and hardly anyone knew about them, Jews might have been disappearing and relocated, but not many German Citizens really knew about the cruel things against the Jews.
We didn't find the camps until Russians stumbled upon them.
But with the propaganda going on then, many hated the Jews and blamed them, you have a motivational speaker and one who could rally the masses and his whole political party hated the Jews, the German people started to turn into that mindset.
Also glad they found the sign, leave those past images alone and don't resurrect them.
