whose going to pay for those expensive, healthy lunches? most school districts are broke as a joke, and cant get a bond measure to pass. people dont want to see a 15 dollar annual increase in their taxes.

But yet we dump billions of dollars into wasted spending every year (parades, celebrations for local sports teams, all the bullshit), from a pure investment stand point when you're looking at cashing in on this investment in 18 years (a healthy tax paying citizen) you spend the money now, to ensure you're going to get return later.

Governments need to think more like successful financial advisers, their citizens are their investment, what's it going to take to get the biggest return out of them. If they'd do that rather than fish for votes, we'd be far better off as a country and a society.

preaching to the choir. parades and shit though are more for local morale and such.

Best line from it:

""People don't like to think about the idea that one is identified by social class or social stratification," Dr. Nancy Adler explained.

Answer? It doesn't matter if people like/don't like to think about it Dr. Nancy. They need to realize that it's real, and deal with it accordingly. It's called well-being.

This article, from Time Magazine, discusses several court cases around the world in which parents lose custody of their children because of morbid obesity.

When I saw the headline my first thought was that this is an unwarranted intrusion into the family unit, but one South Carolina case the 15 year old weighed in at a whopping 555lbs. There are many serious, long term health consequences to obesity, but I am undecided about this issue.

Should Parents of Obese Kids Lose Custody?

I'm so glad I'm not in a position to make these decisions. This is a terribly difficult situation to rule on.

It is often a lifestyle passed on through the generations; made worse by the emergence of fast foods over the years.

Good topic.

You need a license to drive a car, own a gun, fly a plane, run a business, and on and on. Yet, the most important job of all, parenthood, requires no license, no special training, hell, not even a day of schooling. I know this will never, ever happen, but I've always thought it would be a great idea to require a parenting license you'd get after taking classes and passing a criminal check and personality test.

Now that would be some great Big Government.

As a Phys Ed Teacher and swimming coach at the YMCA, obesity is pretty bad. Its pretty pathetic when I had a kid so obese, he couldn't even climb on to a swim block. YIKES! I don't say its "child abuse", but I can see why its borderline.

You don't need a license to own a gun, it's in the Bill of rights, you're just required to be a certain age to own such weapons, you need a license for concealment, but not to own a standard firearm. If we are talking about Assault rifles it would be different.

I guess the fact that there are many stipulations makes it fit in the topic well though.
btw, you forgot the 5 inch cannon, the flamethrower and the chain gun. I believe in a society that allows these. At least you know who killed you then.

Your government says: "You will be prohibited from legally murdering anyone except for in the following manners: rifles measuring over 20 inches; under .22; with a clip of more than 20 shots..." LOL

Is there really THAT many crazy people that we have to keep the rate of fire on weapons down to less than 3/second?? That's scary.

Wow, are we off topic. Z0iks!
