Well, take a good look at that game last night folks. Some of you wanted to know what offensive can do for you...............there is your answer.
The Washington Capitals are an Offensive Jaugernaght, plain and simple. They smoked our system, they smoked our defense, they smoked our goalie. Mistakes cost the Sabres this game and we all know it. But let me ask you this:

Having the knowledge that we will have to compete with a team like the Capitals for the Cup, would you not want Kovalchuck and another guy brought in to help give you that offensive boost?

This game is a case study not only on the why's Buffalo needs offensive firepower, but it also gives you the answer to just what kind of fire power we need. Get used to looking at that scene from last night folks, because come playoff time, thats the hard-charging, fast skating, tape to tape passing and dynamic scoring Washington Capitals that are going to show up in the playoffs.

Has the reality of the situation sunk in yet. Be afraid, be very afraid. There is no way on earth the Buffalo Sabres shutdown the Washington Capitals in the playoffs, just way to much firepower.
Lets hope Darcy and the organization get busy on making the necessary moves to elevate the output of Buffalo's Offense.

Kovalchuk will not be had for anything less than Miller + Myers + 1st round pick. It won't fucking happen...and that makes me incredibly sad.

Well, I would like to think Phil, that anything can be had for the right price. But ya, I thought of this is well, Atlanta needs goaltending, but Miller is going to retire here in Buf. I would like to think there are always alternatives.

Miller will retire a Sabre. We all feel it in our bones, and I think that makes us feel warm inside. I'm starting to think, why is Miller compared to Hasek when his more suitable comparison is Perreault? It really does make more sense.

But I hope Phil, you see the point in my post. People can debate the "who to bring in". But after viewing that display, and coming to the full realization that we can beat teams like Wash. and Pitt in the playoffs with an increase in offensive capacity, its merely a matter of making the deals to do so, and the sooner the better.

I would hope fans were paying attention last night and not getting angry at the game. That was just a plain ass whoppin last night and people can bet their bottom dollar thats the Wash. team we are going to see come playoff time. It only reinforces my convictions that the Sabres need to make the moves if they want to truly compete for the cup.

Kovy will never, EVER, EVER wear a Sabres uniform. How do we aquire him while only having 1.4M in cap space? We're not the Rangers, we can't make the cap just go away :P

That's overpay. They would take Roy, a 1st, and a prospect. You really thing Kovalchuck is worth a 1st round, the best goalie in the NHL, and a big upcoming 6'8 defensemen???

Obviously you don't celebrate Hannukah.

Trust me, for a guy demanding league max for ten years - that's a $110 contract, btw - the Thrashers aren't going to part for anything less than Miller (they need goaltending), Myers (a stud in training to pair with Bogosian), and a first rounder.

Yes they will Phil, but goaltending isn't there only need. They need defense and we have an abundance of Dmen right now, both UFA and fast youngsters. I bet Sekera, Gragnani and Lydman/Tallinder interest them as well as 2 of the top 6 forwards. If its Vanek, then just some dmen and our 1st round pick. Although more picks or prospects may interest them, the point is though, it really should be explored.

That was a clinic last night.

i had last nights game on for a bit in the first period as i was getting ready for my poker game....i saw that it was 2-0 caps early, and i knew it was all over.....no way the sabres can come back 2 down early against a high powered offense like the caps, ain't happenin'....i'm glad i didn't watch that debacle....

and yes, i am one of the fans here that insists we need to acquire more scoring, or else we are in trouble come playoffs....yes, washington would smoke us in the playoffs.....

kovalchuk is the ultimate wet dream....i would like to see us ship vanek, along with a bunch more picks, prospects, and players to get him.....

how about something like vanek, weber, lydman, pominville ?

we can't trade the best goalie in the world away....but vanek would be fine to get rid of...sheds 7mill in cap space....if darcy could acquire kovalchuk at the right price, i would defnitely change my mind about him.......

I don't know where you're getting this complete and utter domination from. The Sabres came out like shit, possibly the least prepared I've seen all season, and the Capitals completely took advantage of that. You can't give an offensive juggernaut like them a free period. A half decent 1st period and no stupid 5 on 3's halfway through the 3rd (when we're already playing a risky game because we're desperately trying to score), and there's no doubt in my mind we could've had that game. And all of that is completely possible without handing Miller and a 1st to Atlanta.

Not to say we couldn't use superstar forwards (ala Kovie), and I personally would love to drop the cap hit from Vanek and maybe a few other pieces for it, but last night was not the best example of a need for that. Kovie wouldn't have saved this team when they were getting castrated by their powerplay on that 5 on 3, and even if he showed up in the 1st, I don't think the rest of the team would have lol.

Are we going to rehash this 'Sabres need Kovie to be competitive' argument every time the Sabres lose a game?

Maybe, just maybe, they laid down for a period and the Caps took advantage of it.

Besides, if Kovie is on this team, that gives Markus another reason to whine about 'players that only score goals'.

No high priced item is coming here unless one is leaving.

Chicago is looking to unload salary; not pick up salary.

It would make us more exciting to have someone who could score well, but that doesn't appear to be happening the way this team is built. Unless the top six snap out of their doldrums, we're going to have to win mostly tight games.
