A division team comes to town after missing the morning skate due to travel issues. They are missing their two best players, and they still walk all over the home team en-route to an overdue SO win? Buffalo was lucky to make it to OT, they looked almost completely inept in their own rink against a short handed roster playing a dumbed down game, and failed to show up for the 1st period for the second straight game.
This is not an, "OMG WE LOST SO IT'S ALL OVER" post. The inexplicable no-shows have been pretty typical so far, and the inability to produce scoring chances continues. They just might hang on to win the division, but I doubt it. Either way, we cannot with a straight face call this team a Cup contender. The top six will not "come around", they simply cannot produce the way they used to (the way they're used to) with the commitment to team defense. What we've seen so far is what we're going to get. This is a playoff contender, and not much else.
That doesn't mean I hate the team, or I'm some cranky pessimist. I'm happy with a playoff seed, and anything can happen once you're in. Really though...there's is no reason at all for me to expect anything more than a 1st round series. Anything after that should be considered a big bonus for fans. So enjoy that one series as much as possible right up until the bitter end, because that's about as good as it gets for a Sabres fan.
1st, an apology , I get just as frustrated as any one of you. It has been years man, years. I am waiting for the cup. Alot of fans are.
Miller is ready, The defence is playing fairly sound hockey. Its the offense, and not just scoring goals, or playing within the system or individual effort.
Its the inability of clutch performers, the total lack of chemistry with the top 6 players, its the piss poor passing, the laziness, no one skating hard and positioning themselves for a shot. Alot of f-ing round and sending it back to the point.
New players, plain and simple, this isn't an "I told you so" statement. I am merely stating what I have held firm to for the past 3 seasons now. It is not impossible to trade in this league today. The art of the deal is alive and well. Whether or not teams will wait until the deadline is a very real possibility. Also, there are players out there that can be had. We have discussed some of them.
Its all up to Darcy now, the ball is in his court. What is going to happen? I don't know, but I completely agree it would be a waste of Miller's talents and quite frankly, an insult to him personally if Darcy & Lindy do nothing.
