What did you guys think of his elbow to Kariya's head? Kariya missed the Blues' Monday practice because of the injury.

I didn't like it. It was a punk move. Not positive he meant to elbow him in the head, but he did raise his elbow for the hit.

I didn't wanna be the first to bring it up, but yea, it does seem like Kaleta was going for the head. I don't like it one bit either.

Well, shit happens. I feel bad for Paul though, didn't deserve that.

As for Kaleta, I don't know, but he's better off playing a clean game as opposed to cheap shots. He doesn't need to do that, he's turning out to be more than an just a pest. I would hate to see him not use his talents in a more constructive way, like scoring goals :).

Exactly Slesh. His game of big, nasty, clean hits has been supplemented by improved hands and vision this season. He doesn't need to get dirty.

It was a dumb penalty for sure...but Kaleta I guess got what he deserved, hurting his leg and all.

Right. He doesn't need to play that role. He's got some skill. I love what he's done most of this year -hit big, play well defensively, and score some, too. That elbow was the first time I've said, "Oh, man, you don't need to do that, Patty."

I fully agree with both you and Phil, Timbo. This kid is way to much of a commodity. Everyone is alloted a second chance and all I can say is lets give this kid time to digest the mistake, I'm sure we won't see it again.

I hope not. He's an on the edge player, but that crossed the line from clean to dirty. It's just giving the league more evidence to use against him when something comes up.

I thought he was going for the shoulder of Kariya and Kariya was bending down so Kaleta whiffed and caught the head.

It was at the very least sloppy hitting, and probably an intent to elbow. I have no problem with the call.

Keep your hands on your stick, when you check, and you'll never be called for elbowing.

Looked kind of like a lazy/sloppy hit. Not sure if it was an intended hit to the head, some could argue that he hit him with his shoulder first. I think Kaleta was still tired and sore from missing some time to be an effective player in St. Louis.

Yeah, you can make the argument that he was going for the shoulder, but he still raised the elbow. I don't want to say he was trying to elbow him, but it sure looked like it.

Accidental elbow, but an avoidable one.

Here's to those types of things being few and far between.

I cant view the video right now, but I remember it pretty plainly, and thought his elbow didnt come up until there was no more contact between them. It looked like momentum.

It DID look like he was trying to shoulder paul in the head, which, is just as much of a dick move, even if it is more legal.

It was intent to injure, but it's hard to tell from the youtube video because it happens so fast. If you put it in extra slow motion you see Kaleta quickly pull out a pipe wrench and bash Kariya in the head. I think Scott Stevens helped him. Classless move by Kaleta.

Didn't bother me
It wasn't a clean hit, and deserving of a 2-minute minor... But thats about it. Accidents happen

It looks like more of that follow through by raising the arm after initial contact is made. Patty hits like that for extra oompf. I don't have an issue with them calling it a penalty, but I don't think it was an intent to injure (any more than any of Kalet's big hits). It's walking that fine line between clean and dirty and sometimes you're going to cross it.
