Yeah, I think he was more trying to hit him shoulder to shoulder but the blues player leaned into it a little which helped catch him in the head. It's borderline but adds ammo to those who thinks Kaleta is a dirty player and just will make the refs watch him even more closely than they are now. Even clean hits are getting called as penalties.

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

dirty pool, but it doesnt look like he had intent to injure. kaleta plays borderline, so its inevitable that some of his antics will cross the line.

It wasn't a clean hit, and deserving of a 2-minute minor... But thats about it. Accidents happen

It looks like more of that follow through by raising the arm after initial contact is made. Patty hits like that for extra oompf. I don't have an issue with them calling it a penalty, but I don't think it was an intent to injure (any more than any of Kalet's big hits). It's walking that fine line between clean and dirty and sometimes you're going to cross it.

My sentiments exactly.

It was intent to injure, but it's hard to tell from the youtube video because it happens so fast. If you put it in extra slow motion you see Kaleta quickly pull out a pipe wrench and bash Kariya in the head. I think Scott Stevens helped him. Classless move by Kaleta.

It was a dirty hit, and I hate to talk bad about King Kaleta round here, but it wasn't the first time he's done something with the intent to injure.

He really, really needs to watch himself. He's already the most hated player around the league, or if not, very close to it. People are going to take every opportunity to take him out. And with a history of concussions already in his young career (at least two I can think of, plus the "neck" injury from the shot to the head earlier this month), he could be putting his career in jeopardy. I wouldn't be surprised to see him out of the game completely in another couple years due to brain injuries. I hope it doesn't happen, but I just feel something bad coming from the way his career has progressed to this point.
