Reuters is reporting that Tiger Woods' dalliances may have cost shareholders of his sponsors between $5-12 billion.

Let's see, a dozen women, $12 billion in stock losses...that works out to a billion dollars a babe. I hope they were worth it. As Aristotle Onasis once said, “Without women, what good would money be?” Of course, I don't think even he wasn't thinking in quite those astronomical amounts.

Far be it from me to question economics professors, but I'm not sure I agree with their methodology. It assumes that the stocks of each of the companies in question were only influenced by Tiger Woods, which is obviously not the case.

Looking at stock prices going back 30 days from today, which is only 2 days off from the November 27th date they used:

Accenture plc (ACN): +2%
AT&T, Inc. (T): +5%
Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS) : +6%
Procter & Gamble Co. (PG): -1%
Nike Inc. (NKE) : +2%
Pepsico, Inc. (PEP): -2%
TLC VISION CORP (TLCVQ.PK) : -75% (Not a great example, this is a penny stock. Was a $0.20 a share on Nov 30, not at $0.05. I don't understand how the could afford Tiger at any point. They've been below $1 a share since mid-2008.)

Now, neglecting market cap and such, you STILL have more winners than losers. How they came to an $12B loss in shareholder value is beyond me.

Moving past the financial analysis, I don't like how Tiger is being demonized. The guy made mistakes in his personal life. He's paying for that mistake in his marriage, and financially via his own income streams. That's punishment enough. He didn't kill anyone, he's not out doing/dealing meth, none of that shit. It's between him and his wife, and that's where it should stay. These companies that feel slighted? They can suck it. How many MILLIONS did they make due to their marketing with Tiger? Much more than they paid for it, that's for sure. They got their money's worth out of the deal.

I don't have any real sympathy for Tiger. I think people are most upset because he put forth a squeaky clean image that hid the deviancy beneath. If he had come across as a fast-talking, smoking, drinking, gambling skirt-chaser, I don't think people would have raised much fuss about extra-marital affairs. Even twelve of them.

Twelve women is a mistake?? Telling several women you love them and your wife is only a business partner, image wise, is a mistake? Telling them you really want to be with them is a mistake?

Bullshit; it's manipulative behavior. It is selfish, deceitful behavior. It is a character flaw.

Now if his wife said it's okay for him to have other relationships, but just avoid anyone who would say anything publicly, then he made mistakes by leaving paper (electronic) trails, I'll grant you that.

Based on Elin's response by beating him with a golf club, and then leaving him; I think it's safe to assume she had not given her Papal blessing on him "diddling" other women on the side.

Mistakes and indiscretions are not the same thing in this case.

Wait a sec, guys stepping out on their wives tell the other woman that they love them, and don't really want to be with their wives? What a revelation!!

/Sarcasm

What Tiger has done is no different than thousands, maybe millions of other guys. They'll say whatever it takes to get in those pants they're eying up, and they'll make silly mistakes in doing so to get caught. It happens daily in all professional sports, and the Congress for that matter.

This should have been between Tiger and Elin. However, our TMZ fueled voyeuristic culture demands that it become a 'news story'.

I don't give a shit if he's fucking hot chicks or hot chimps. Just let me know when his next golf tourney is.

If 5 million guys do this all of the time why does this story even make people give a shit?

Because 4,999,999 aren't Tiger Woods.

Hey, we can't all be John Daly, who although having married five times, was faithful.

Sorry Howie, not to make light of the situation, but I just can't stop laughing when you make the statement that she beat him with a golf club. That, I would consider "Irony" (every pun intended).
Man, I'm surprised the late night shows haven't had a field day on this. :D

Slesh, you can make fun of the situation all you want! I find it humerous myself!

And I think of Tiger Woods as the greatest golfer in the world way more than I ever have considered him any type of role model for high moral standards.

I just find it rediculous to consider what he did a mistake. A mistake is when you think you need to fart, and you soil yourself.

Hmm; based on that analogy, maybe he did make a mistake!

I just find it rediculous that people brush his behavior off as a mistake. Is he the only man or woman to engage in this type of activity? Hell no; I've been around long enough to know he's absolutely not. But he, like many people, aren't making mistakes; they're making conscious decisions.

The issue here is that one of the most famous people in the world got caught in something "charged." You or I do it, and no one outside of perhaps family and friends know, or care. But as a celebrity, he can't just elect to drop out and become a working stiff like you or I when it suits him. Being a celebrity isn't a convenience; you can't turn a switch on or off when it suits you. On the upside, he's made over a billion by being famous. The downside is, he is being publicly rediculed by millions.

But yes; I grow tired of it all as well, even though here we are, still discussing the topic. ;)

He should stop trying to be a weasel and save face and start hanging out with all kinds of promiscuous women, come to the next tournament with five hookers on his arms, tell Mickelson the only thing his left hand is good for isn't legal on the PGA tour then proceed to beat the shit out of everyone at golf.

This is the only thing about Tiger that makes him more interesting than drying paint and he's blushing like a baby at it and throwing out PR bullshit left and right.

It would make him interesting, intentionally, for a change. I say do it!

Great idea!
