As much as these games are fun to watch, I think the flare is starting to wear off.

That's because they keep choosing baseball stadiums for no damn reason.

Exactly. TSN keeps revisiting the idea of an outdoor game with the Flames, I hope that happens.

The buzz and hype surrounding these games could easily fill a football stadium each season. The ice guru, Jim Craig, even wants it to take place in football stadiums each year. The NHL's equivalent of the Super Bowl, in terms of pomp, circumstance, and attention, is what he wants it to become.

I guess, for now, that I'm happy being one of 71,217 fans in attendance.
It makes no sense to not have these in football stadiums. Based on the 08' attendance, I never understood the switch to baseball parks. I got the historic thing, but it was already proven that hockey sells out in 70,000+ stadiums.

When in doubt, hold it in Buffalo every year

I wish I had gone, but seats were like $150, and I had about $250 in my account at the time. Plus my then gf would have killed me since it would have entailed me skipping the New Years Eve party she was hosting at my house.

In good markets. There are a few northern markets that suck (NJ, LI) that would be an embarassment.

I thought I heard that next year there will be two outdoor games. One in the US and another in Canada.

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

There is more of a nostalgic feel to Fenway Park than to Gillette Stadium. That is why the NHL chose it over the greater ticket sales that could be generated from having it in the Patriots stadium.

The NHL is still creating the mystique around the Winter Classic. I don't think it is losing its magic, at all. I have friends who never watch hockey who are coming over to see the Classic. It is building into a put-it-on-your-calender, Super Bowl-type event.

The NHL needs the Winter Classic. I'm also proud that Buffalo was the team that started the tradition (there have been other outdoor games, but the Sabres hosted the first Classic).

depends on how you interpret it

the first game called the Winter Classic, however the first game, and the one done correcty, is the Heritage Classic

No, the Heritage Classic was the first "Classic".

Oh shit, did you see Rask's mask? A bear tearing apart a Yankees jersey

all im saying is that, in my view, that it would have been done 100% correctly if there was a game between the Sabres alumni and Penguins alumni, as there was in the Heritage Classic

Honk! I think he may be a dark-horse candidate...International play, and all. But, it's a possibility. Good luck, Goose.

There was no "Heritage" moniker tagged onto the Ice Bowl, so I have no problem with how it was done. I had a much warmer fuzzy feeling seeing a bunch of tykes on a smaller surface skating around and playing kiddy shinny than I would've seeing a bunch of old-timers who can't skate half as well as they used to.
