Courtesy of The Hockey News:

Screen Shots: Eastern Conference predictions

"7. Buffalo. Say what you may about the Sabres’ so-so defense corps and underachieving forwards, but the fact of the matter is they missed the playoffs by the equivalent of three stinking shootout losses last season. A fully healthy Ryan Miller, and the absence of on-ice flotsam and jetsam such as Maxim Afinogenov, ought to turn around Buffalo’s fortunes in a hurry this year."

...Possible; Interesting, somewhat blunt perspective.

What's also interesting is that he ranks Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa (and the Rags) out of the playoffs.

Buffalo; second in the division? Hmmmmmmm...

Spot on. He's one of the only writers who doesn't pull punches, and babble about the losses of Afinogenov, Kalinin, Kotalik, etc...

He's pretty perceptive regarding players who are "dead weight". And isn't afraid to say so.

I think it will be a big boost to moral having some dead weight gone and fresh hungry players in their shoes. Getting a bit more optimistic about the season....lol.

A fair assessment, indeed. I am, anyway, extremely confident that they will at the very least see the postseason.

If Miller is healthy the entire season I say 5-7 but if he gets hurt I expect 9-12.

Also why does every reporter think Washington will be the class of the east? They need to play more like a team and if they don't I expect them to be 4/5 not 1/2.

If they play like last year they will be tough to beat, but if Varlamov is not their starter they are screwed.

Theodore is not a goaltender they can win with, Varlamov they can.

Theodore's a back-up. He's gotten old and nicked-up. They've thrown their lot in with Varlamov.

God help the kid if he falters.

Actually - I don't know if the Washington fans and media will ride him as badly as they would have, had it been NY or TO or Montreal...

He'll have more wiggle-room to make some rookie mistakes.

They might win with Varlamov but from what I remember in the playoffs Varlamov has no glove hand.

I posted about being surprised Washington didn't improve their goalkeeping for the playoffs last season. I would assume if Varlamov doesn't play well this season, they will not make that same mistake again.....

Theadore had one great season in Montreal. Of course, he was roided that year...

They were 3-1 with Theodore, when they put in Varlamov they tied the series up at 7, and eventually went on to beat the Rangers in 7 Only to be beaten in the next round by Pittsburgh I believe?
