Dallas and Detroit play every year on Thanksgiving. I have no problem with repeats, especially ones that draw an audience.

In fact, I think Buffalo is due for another (even if we don't host). You want an excited crowd and that means at least one of the teams should be a real hockey city.

And NJ-style trapping teams should never get a shot at the Classic. The NHL isn't attracting any new customers with that kind of hockey.

I'm guessing Ovi and the Caps will be invited next. I just hope they don't play in D.C.

On another note, 307,000+ people applied to the lottery and contest for tickets to the 2009 NHL Winter Classic. Maybe the problem isn't that people don't like hockey, but rather the NHL has not found a way to give us hockey, i.e. an American television contract. Perhaps, if NBC advertised hockey games the way they did the Classic and then showed them on a regular basis, then maybe, just maybe, people would actually tune in.

Of course, it doesn't help when Sports Illustrated can't even figure out that Buffalo's hockey team is the Sabres, not the Bills.

"Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs, hosted the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks last year. Ralph Wilson Stadium, where the NFL's Buffalo Bills call home, was the location in 2008 when the Pittsburgh Penguins visited the Buffalo Bills."

Just saying.

I agree with Irony about how the Baseball parks have more character. But thats because baseball has been around longer. More history. Doesn't make the experience better. A football stadium is just more set up to have a rink in the middle of it. Therefore I agree with Phil when he says stick to the football stadiums. As for the game itself. Meh. Both games so far have been better.
And for the one's who metnioned Bettman putting a game in a warm market. He's already been talking about having one on Manhattan Beach in LA using synthetic ice. I believe they have an outdoor rink in LA outside the staple's center if i remember correctly.

I like the idea of using football stadiums more also because yeah OK, baseball history is cool and stuff, but the game needs to be more about the hockey teams playing.

just as well, there isnt a bad seat in either fenway or wrigley. the sightlines are usually centred on the pitching mound, therefore, in many cases the sightlines are better for hockey in a baseball stadium rather then a football stadium. yeah, the overall set up makes more sense, but to me its cold and lacks character and charm.

but i dont make the rules, sadly. if i did, target field in minneapolis.

So I doubt the NHL goes with two games next year. Any predictions as to who will host and what teams will play?

I'll guess Minnesota hosts Vancouver.

Minnesota would be a good host, but I think the NHL wants to showcase Ovechkin next, so I think Washington is one of the teams.

Bettman might give the Canadian teams a second game (which NBC will not show), but I think he is going to stick with his all-U.S., all-the-time plan for the NHL. Toronto-Montreal would be a good matchup.

If I were going to bet money, then my bet would be Pittsburgh-Washington, with Pittsburgh as the host city.

if we're talking about game wise, maybe Buffalo's wasn't the best. The snow made the ice conditions tough for the teams so it was a low scoring event. but...it was the most magical game I've ever experienced. Many people compared the setting to a snowglobe. It was truly beautiful. Great for the fans.

as for the whole baseball field vs football stadium thing. Now I'm a huge baseball fan and love the fields, but I feel that for a hockey game, a football stadium is more suitable. More seating=more tickets to sell=more fans. I don't know though, I think I'd have to be at a Winter Classic in a baseball field before I could truly judge. I just know that the Winter Classic in OP was one of the best experiences ever.

I like Minnesota hosting Dallas, with the Wild wearing North Stars uniforms, or Ottawa hosting Vancouver, with the Canucks wearing the Millionaires uniforms.

Wouldn't that be a punch in the face if Minnesota wore the Northstars Uniforms against Dallas? I believe that Dallas owns the rights to the Northstars history though and that would never happen (which is BS. Same way the OKC Thunder hold the rights to the Sonics history. The Sonics truly are dead). When your team moves, you have to be bitter about it Hartford style.

I vehemently HATE baseball, and wish to never see a hockey game at a baseball PARK again...

Baseball is a game; a pasttime, played in PARKS.

Keeping the Classic in baseball stadiums keeps the demand for tickets higher since there are less to be had. The NHL doesn't want to take a chance on not selling the thing out and looking bad in the process. Not every city can pound out 70k+ like we can. :)

The league should take one of two routes.

1. Keep the Winter Classic as a US event. Add a 2nd outdoor game as part of the existing 'Hockey Day in Canada'.
2. Turn the Winter Classic into a double header. One game in the US, one in Canada.

hitting a round ball, with a round bat, squarely, is by far the most difficult thing in sports. its only called a "park" because it sounds more charming then "stadium."

The whole 'parks' thing is a Carlin reference. Go look it up, a skit on baseball vs football. Funny stuff.
