It matters not what they do.

If they get Cowher, people will bitch that he's a retread and overrated. (IE, Mike Schopp)

If they don't, people will bitch that it's not Cowher.

The guy would certainly bring passion, I don't think there is any question about that. I think these passionate fans deserve a passionate coach(especially after skeletor).

I think that no matter who the choice is, a passionate coach is a good coach.

They can be passionate quietly like a Dungy, or loudly like a Gruden. I just want them to show that they give a shit about winning and losing.

My number one choice would be Marty Schottenheimer. But I doubt he is going to come out of retirement.

I've heard a rumor that he's interested, but nothing beyond that. I would love to have him too, he'd get us to the playoffs and it's not like we would expect to win anyways for the first 2 or 3 years...

I liken Schottenheimer to Peyton Manning. Get to the playoffs year in and year out and odds are you'll win at least one Super Bowl by accident.

Apparently Brian Billick has a lot of interest in the Bills coaching job. the news said last night he had started to assemble a staff together.

Is Billick ready to come to Buffalo?

Paul Hamilton Reporting
One league source has told me that Brian Billick is already assembling a staff to come to Buffalo. There are two ways this could be going. Is he putting together a staff because the Bills have hired him as head coach or is he putting together a staff so he's ready if the Bills want to hire him as head coach?

Yahoo sports reported on Saturday that Billick will interview this week. He was quoted as saying he hadn't talked to the Bills yet. He repeated that on Monday so it looks like he's in more of a hurry about this than the Bills.

Last month Billick said on the NFL Network, "Why would anybody want the Buffalo job", but obviously that's changed.

who ever they choose i hope they take marc Trestman as the offensive coordinator.

some info on him.

When they won, it wasn't by accident, they decimated the Best overall Defense in the league.

The Bears were lucky to be in that Superbowl, but Payton Manning won it because he destroyed their secondary and ripped them apart, and it helped having Rex Grossman behind center too.

wgr55 is reporting today on their homepage that

"Former Ravens boss Brian Billick told WGR he's had "no official contact" with the Bills and it seems as though other candidates are not showing interest"

LOL....this is getting bad

People are getting soft, they want a warm weather team with new facilities and a state with low taxes. The Bills retain one of the last great homefield advantages in the NFL, a smart coach knows how to use that. Marv Levy did, that's why the Bills were unstoppable at home past december. The best home playoff record belonged (and still might belong) to the Bills, not the Packers.

Lambeau, Ralph Wilson, the Superdome are the last great home field advantage stadiums. New stadiums with more boxes (which boxes out the diehard fans), and worse accoustics just don't have the same legacy.

Lombardi: “Bills have their guy in mind”
By Chris Brown - Posted January 7th, 2010
National Football Post and NFL Network reporter/analyst Michael Lombardi reported on NFL Network’s Total Access that the “Bills have their guy in mind” for head coach.

Here is his direct quote from the interview.

“You know Buffalo is quietly been going underground, they are doing their interviews. They interviewed Leslie Frazier. They are talking to a lot of people in the league. But somebody I spoke to in the organization tells me they are very close to making a descision. They think they know which way they want to go. Wouldn’t tell me which way they are going to go. But I think they have their guy in mind.”

Speculate all you want with this one, your guess is as good as anyone else’s. Bottom line though is while the Bills brass might have their guy in mind there are some hurdles still to be cleared.

First, the pick of Buddy Nix and Russ Brandon must get approval from Mr. Wilson, which usually involves a face-to-face meeting. Then they have to talk contract. There also could be the issue of the playoffs if the candidate is working for a playoff team.

If Lombardi is right though this could be wrapped up by early next week. Stay cool everybody.

Frazier turns down Seahawks
Chris Brown
Posted January 8th, 2010
Tags: Leslie Frazier
The Seattle Seahawks made an immediate request to the Vikings for permission to speak with their defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier just hours after firing Jim Mora, knowing Minnesota had a playoff bye this week. The answer they got surprised them.ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that Frazier declined to interview with the Seahawks.

Now the main reason why he declined could be due to the fact that the team has no general manager, so without knowing who is really in charge and what the management structure is for the Seahawks it looks like an unstable situation to become a part of. That’s not appealing particularly for a first time NFL head coach.

Of course there’s also speculation out there now that Frazier turning down Seattle means he’s a finalist for the Bills head coaching position where the team’s management structure is in place. Frazier interviewed for the Bills head coaching job on Thursday. Only time will tell.

Bills owner Wilson unsure if Cowher interested in head coaching job

Associated Press
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Bills owner Ralph Wilson says the team has spoken to Bill Cowher about its coaching vacancy, but Wilson isn't sure whether the former Steelers coach is interested.

"You'd have to ask him," Wilson told The Associated Press in a phone interview Friday from his home in suburban Detroit.

Cowher, who works as an NFL analyst for CBS, has declined to comment about his future.

Wilson did say the Bills' search continues. He couldn't provide a timetable as to when a hire will be made. Wilson said the team will not rush into deciding who will replace Dick Jauron, who was fired in November.

Wilson added he doesn't have a preference on whether the new coach has an offensive or defensive background.

i'd say put the kaibaash on cowher he is clearly waiting for fox to get fired. go after a guy like harbaugh, Jim out of stanford, or Brian Schottenheimer (he'd be my guess). as long as a competent staff is hired and a competent draft takes place. we can't have another aaron maybin.

Fewell expected to join Bears
Chris Brown
Posted January 10th, 2010

Reports are indicating that Bills interim head coach Perry Fewell will take a bird in the hand as opposed to two in the bush when it comes to his next job.

After interviewing for the Bills head coaching job, the Giants defensive coordinator post, Fewell will interview for the Bears defensive coordinator job Monday. But it’s more of a formality than anything else as Fewell is tight with Bears head coach Lovie Smith. That’s why there are reports that Fewell will take the job with the Bears on the spot.

Fewell even called himself a long shot for the Bills head coaching job, despite reports that he interviewed well. Fewell spent the 2005 season as Chicago’s secondary coach under Smith, and previously worked under Smith with the St. Louis Rams.

A new candidate mentioned
Chris Brown
Posted January 10th, 2010
Tags: Brian Schottenheimer, Jason Garrett
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen in describing some dark horse candidates for Bills head coach mentioned a new name Sunday.

Mortensen, on ‘ESPN NFL Countdown’ called Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer a “sleeper” candidate in his opinion and also mentioned Dallas offensive coordinator Jason Garrett as a sleeper candidate for the job.

This is the first time Garrett has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the job. Garrett is the highest paid assistant coach in football at $3 million a year.

He’s been up for head coaching job before including Baltimore and Atlanta after the 2007 season, but he chose to stay with Dallas. Last offseason he was a finalist for the Rams job, but it eventually went to Steve Spagnuolo.

He would be a highly qualified offensive-minded head coach, something many outside observers feel the Bills need. Of course an offensive-minded coach typically wants a quarterback to work with, which was part of the reason he didn’t take the Baltimore or Atlanta jobs, which later drafted Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan. `

Report: Schottenheimer out
Chris Brown
Posted January 13th, 2010
Tags: Brian Schottenheimer
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer will not interview for the Bills head coaching job.

The Bills were granted permission to interview Schottenheimer by the Jets earlier this week, but the Jets play caller has decided he would prefer to remain with the club that currently employs him. According to Schefter, Schottenheimer will not interview this week or after the Jets’ season is over believing there will be other head coaching opportunities in the future.

Schottenheimer apparently feels he has a good thing going with developing QB Mark Sanchez and believes his continued success with the young QB will translate into other head coaching job offers down the line.

“I’d love to be a head coach, but I say that with an asterisk,” Schottenheimer said Sunday after the Jets beat the Bengals in the wild-card round of the playoffs. “That’s my dream, but I want to be a head coach when the time is right, when the situation is right. I don’t want to just take a job to take a job.”

According to Schefter, Schottenheimer called the Bills to thank them for their consideration.

Ironically, Schottenheimer chose to stay on New York’s staff last year despite interviewing for the Jets’ head coaching post and losing out to Rex Ryan. But the two have developed a tight relationship and apparently that was a factor as well.

“For the first time in three years, I’m really, really happy,” said Schottenheimer. ”I’m happy working for Rex. I love the area. I love the Jets fans. I love what we’ve done. I love the guys on our roster.”
