All of this nonsense on Buffalo's system being affected by picking this guy up is pure folly.
I'll just say this.
Kovie spoke out about Buffalo's coaching saying they were foolish to treat Max the way they did because he's a hard worker and a very happy, talented player. Since Max's prime in Buffalo a few years back, we've slowly switched to a defensive style and slowly phased his free wheeling type of offense out. He was getting benched and seeing considerably less production. He moves to Atlanta and he's found new life on a similar free wheeling line with Kovalchuk.
Now, Kovie comes in to Buffalo already with a bad impression of the coaching staff with the whole Max thing. He will probably just play his own game, he's a franchise player afterall, right? He plays his own free wheeling type of offense that he's grown accustomed to and we see ourselves with another Max situation, a very talented offensive geared player not getting the production he should be
because of our system. Do you think he'll just up and change his entire style of play that brought him success his entire NHL career in Atlanta? How do we even know he's capable of playing a proficient defensive game while still maintaining an offensive threat? That's what would have to happen for him to be half as effective here as he was in Atlanta and to not become a defensive liability (like what bought Max several tickets to Lindy's doghouse)... and I have to think that his numbers would go down as well, simply because offense doesn't seem to thrive in Buffalo these days.
And on top of that, personally, Kovalchuk has always struck me as kind of arrogant. Not necessarily a locker room cancer or anything, but still. If that's a little true, it doesn't bode well for his acceptance of and from the coaching staff and Lindy in Buffalo... which as I mentioned he's not particularly fond of already, and I'm sure they aren't fond of his criticism.
