Apparently GOP chair Michael Steele is picking the toe-jam from between his teeth after using the expression "honest injun" in an appearance on Sean Hannity's show. The article I'm reading quotes a tribal elder who states that she finds the term "injun" as offensive as the N-word. Also she says she feels it hurts more coming from a black man who should be more sensitive to offending minorities.

Oopsie.

This guy cracks me up. However, the GOP's affirmative action program has so few black people that they had to take what they could get with Steele.

Of the 4 black guys I'm very close friends with, all of them are either Republican or Libertarian.
Only 1 of them voted for Obama and it was purely because he wanted to see a black president.

Steele is a dolt though.

EDIT: however folks in the party once run by screaming Howard Dean shouldn't cast the first stone ;)

Maybe one of your friends should be the GOP chairman.

Howard Dean is a good guy and his "screaming" was the result of a media manipulation.

Well, I guess you could say that about anything and the phrase would be equally meaningless.

Media manipulation?
I've never heard that one before.

In what way?
To me, he seems equally as zealous and nonsensical as Michael Steele.

I'll go check with the Palin camp and see what the threshold is for "media manipulation"

As someone who is part Native American, I am deeply offended by this comment and want a public apology and concessions to be made to me and my people.

Yes, Cross, it did seem that way. However,

"reporters who were actually at the event said they didn't perceive Dean's performance to be crazy or outrageous"

"Diane Sawyer of ABC News has examined that aspect of the controversy, and has concluded that the video that was aired so many times and seen by so many people did not capture the deafening crowd noise."

"One tape showed that Dean's so-called "scream" at the end of his speech could hardly be heard in the room. But in the video that aired on television, he came across as a madman. The power of television and media manipulation has been demonstrated once again."

Perception = Reality (for better or worse...tough shit)
Nixon looked horrible on unscripted TV too.

Go deposit Howard Dean in the same bin currently occupied by Ron Paul.

Indeed. Those are the breaks. I was just pointing out that Dean is not the wacko that he is portrayed as. After all, he is the one who engineered the 50 state strategy that got Obama elected and gave the Dems the House and Senate, as well as the majority of governorships.

yet...so far....no political fallout for Harry Reid saying Obama had "no negro dialect"...

So just to keep racial score here:
Black Republican using derogatory native term: ZOMGWTFBBQ!!!
White Democrat using derogatory black term in reference to the Democratic president: meh.

Got it.

Yes, outrage over Steele using the phrase "honest injun" is fake.
Thanks for admitting that.

It's fake on both sides.

The outrage is only used to score political points when the opportunity arises.

Nothing to admit. It is fake. I hate politicians and the media wasting time on stupid, inconsequential issues.

Negro paa-leez, there is no need to scalp someone just because they screwed up on language.

The thing is..."honest injun" is an actual phrase that used to be in common use...I can understand that slip-up.

"Negro dialect" is not. Mr. Reid came up with that bit speech all on his own. I believe he meant it as well.
I love the people brushing it off too...
"It definitely was in the context of recognizing in Senator Obama a great candidate and future president."
http://washingtontimes.com/news/2010/ja ... _headlines

right recognizing him as a great candidate while at the same time saying all the other black people in the country speak differently.

Who is rationalizing now, Cross?. Negro didn't used to be in the common usage?

The real question is, do you think Reid or Steele are racists? If not, then both just made a verbal gaff. When your career is all about talking it will happen once in a while.

Anything else is just people scoring political points wherever they can.

Ebonics used to be referred to as the 'negro dialect'.
