Idk how a defensemen could be +50 and have no points.. Part of getting into the positive is creating offense.. If all of the defensemen on your team have 0 points your gonna have a REALLY shitty team..

Did you guys not see the two articles I posted up and the excerpts from them.

Myers is getting more love for Calder than anyone else basically.

He also plays for Buffalo so unless you are Ryan miller you're not going to get huge coverage on NHL.com anyways. haha

You know what NHL.com?!? Fuck you!!!

Actually Ive seen Tyler on the front page early on this season and they have him nominated as the calder trophy winner at the halfway mark..

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=512581

Plus they have Miller as the vezina trophy winner.. So no complaints here.. Thanks NHL.com..

I apologize if you don't understand the comparison. If he's on the ice when our team scores, it doesn't mean he gets an assist (point), but it does mean that
1) He kept the puck out of OUR net
2) He may or may not have assisted in the breakout
3) The puck may pass back and forth between our OFFENSIVE players many times in the offensive zone
4) He kept the puck out of OUR net

And don't think I'm naive enough to think that they won't pick up points along the way to a ridiculous +/-, I'm using a manner of speech (exaggeration) to amplify my point.

Not getting a negative means the 5 players on the ice at the time kept the puck out of OUR net.. He's not the sole reason for his +/-.. I mean, Tallinder is leading our team with +/-.. Does thast mean he's our best Defensemen?

it means that Myers is helping tallinder's play, and boosting tallinder's stats

damnit, look at afinogenov playing with kovalchuk

+/- is no indication of how good a player is anyways.

Normally the best players in the league don't have a +50, and some are a Plus but it is more rare to see a top line player going +25 or higher.

Most of them average +10 throughout a season.

lindstrom of the red wings may beg to differ on how a +/- stat reflects a player

Only because he was a on a team good team that almost all of their players in the positive.. On the other hand, some crappy teams have superstar players, but they are in the negative..

I don't agree with this at all. Certainly given a small sample size, you can disregard +/- to circumstances (i.e. a goal went in but wasn't his fault), but over a long stretch of time, it is a very good measure of how well rounded a player is.

I don't like the +/- stat really. Because most of the better defensemen in the league are typically a very low Plus or a minus.

If you're going against the top lines all the time, and a defender, well most of the time you won't be positive really. I only like to compare team mates not throughout the league at least.

How does not winning a cup make you not impressed with a player??

Winning a cup is a team achievement, not a player achievement..
