Oh, there was most definitely a racist message being sent. When have you ever heard of a hockey fan throwing a banana on the ice? Anyone ever bring a banana to a hockey game? An octopus, maybe, but not monkey fruit.

Kind of funny you would say that, last year I went to a Sabres-Anaheim game and the guy sitting next to me was eating a banana. I got a kick out of it and I asked myself, "Who the hell brings a banana to a hockey game?"

The racism stuff aside and getting back on topic, if the laser pointer was noticed by the team and the refs and security took notice to this, why not penalize the home team 2 minutes? It's been done before if the home teams fan's tossed debris on the ice when the visiting team scored a goal.

I agree though, a down right bitch move to do.

If the green laser appears at GM Place when the Preds visit, Barry Trotz is giving everyone the big FUCK YOU and pulling his squad from the game...story at the Globe and Mail here.

How about the league creating a new 3 strike rule?

strike 1. play is stopped, PA system warns the audience, Security begins searching for the laser.
strike 2. home team (or the team not affected) is penalized a 2 minute minor.
strike 3. home team (or the team not affected) forfeits the 2 points for that game.

That would put a stop to this nonsense in short order.
