The real question is, do you think Reid or Steele are racists?

I think Reid could be, yes.
He was a member of the LDS church back when the priesthood was denied to black people.
That garbage stuck to Mitt Romney and it applies here as well.

/I was raised Mormon...but after those practices had been abolished.

Do I think Micheal Steele is racist toward Native Americans? No, unless you have some corroborating evidence to imply it was more than a gaff.

I've never liked this argument. One can worship under a particular ideology and still not agree with all of the teachings and ideas of that ideology. How many Catholics get divorces even though that church doesn't allow them? How many still use birth control against the church's teachings?

Not unlike politics, where a person's ideas shouldn't be assumed based on the letter after their name, a person's ideas shouldn't be assumed based on the church they attend.

As I pointed out...it stuck to Romney, so it should stick to Reid equally.

Unless Romney is somehow whiter and more guilty because he's a Republican.

Cross, it sounds like you want the world to be fair, where everything that happens to people in one party would happen to people in another - sort of a political karma. If that were truly the case then the Republicans would get payback for all of the fear-mongering scare tactics (9/11, terror alert stuff) and politics of personal destruction (Max Cleland is only the most outrageous example of this kind of "swiftboating"), but they don't and won't.

The political strategy of attacking Demcorats as somehow less American, less patriotic, less willing to fight for this country, has worked for the GOP since the Cold War and will, I fear, continue to work in the future.

There is no fairness in politics.

*Sigh*

Isn't there anything of substance to discuss? Bickering over some stupid statement made by politicians? Slow political news day.

You are right, Ham. We have become a small people governed by small leaders.

This doesn't sound like the words of a person from a "small" country.

They have attached "embracing others human rights" as a weakness, and found a base that likes it, and consider almost every discussion a 'fight'. They have feared change, and even the dialogue of change. Every one loves traditions, yet everyone knows that society is very flawed, so why not try to create a different world?

On the other hand, Democrats have painted Republicans as this ^. I guess it's just how any adversarial process ends up. They'll do what it takes to get the votes either way. A politician that leads from his heart loses.

Right...I pointed that out.

Republican = racist no matter what they say
Democrat = can never even remotely be racist no matter what they say

got it.

So what does it take to get a Democrat thrown out by their own party a la Trent Lott?
Racist remarks are ok.
Dodging taxes is probably encouraged.
A federal indictment??...naa, I bet a conviction is required.

You could also say that:

Democrat = always unfaithful, with poor family values
Republican = always faithful, with excellent family values, even when they are flying to other countries to have affairs, or trying to play hide the weenie with 15 year old pages.

The Repubs still lash out at John Edwards for his infidelity against his wife. However, when it comes to their own marital indiscretions, the reaction isn't as harsh.

Both sides play the same game. If your party member does it, it's terrible. If my party member does it, it's excusable, and here's why.

John Edwards used his wife and her medical situation to score political points while banging someone else on the side.

I think any human can agree he's a scumbag of monumental proportions.
I can't even think of a recent politician of any party reaching the level of douchbaggery Mr. Edwards has attained.

He's got a special place in hell waiting for him.

No disagreement with that assessment of Edwards.
