A real russian system would be for all 5 players to wait on the blue line and just HOPE the goalie gets the puck up to you.

Then, when you gain the zone, everyone heads to the goalie and HOPE you get a lucky bounce.

On another note, Russia is going to get crushed in the olympics this year, for this very reason.

(Kalinin and Afinogenov still on the roster? Ha...)

Russia won't medal this year.

Take a penalty against these guys and they will score. Playing by international rules on N.A. ice is a big advantage for the russians.

North American ice is going to benefit the Americans and the Canadians.

Russia's defense is going to get shelled.

I don't know that their defense will get worked, but their offense will certainly be bogged down.

It's harder to trap on international ice because of the wider ice surface. Playing on a 15' narrower rink brings all variants of the trap back into play.

I think this year it is personal for Canada. Pretty much everyone good is going to play this year.

That "young class" has finally matured a little bit more and I think they are a pretty good lock for the gold.

Of course, they still have to play with passion.

but seriously, isn't it a much bigger logistical problem to do a wholesale change every time you want to change lines?
I mean, that's why the D pair stays on the ice to begin with...

Exactly my thoughts. If you can do this on a consistant basis, would it not mean you would be dumping the puck and giving away posession that much more so you can make the wholesale change?

Someone on here already explained how it would work easily, I think. I'm too lazy to go looking for it.

My bad. I blame it on not having time to get on here as much as I'd like.

It can be done if the d-man stays behind the net while the forward line changes. Then the center comes back and picks up the puck while the d-men change on the rush.

Aha, here it is. Guess I wasn't so lazy after all.

Why, thank you. Haha. I guess that makes sense.

If I'm not mistaken, the prime year Islanders used to use this tactic. I've watched a lot of old Islander games and it seems they employed this on a regular basis.

Couldn't agree more about Russia's defence. But the international refs are shit and hopefully they wont be as bad as the ones at the WJC but if they are and you give Russia enough oppo's they'll make us pay. They did it too us at the WC 2 years ago? Kovy snipe late in the game to tie(maybe a PP or it was extra attacker) and then a PP in OT where Kovy snipes the winner for the gold.
