Fewell to the Giants
Chris Brown
Posted January 14th, 2010
Tags: Perry Fewell
After careful thought and consideration former Bills interim head coach Perry Fewell has decided to accept the Giants offer to be their defensive coordinator.

That according to NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora. Fewell had been mulling his options as the Bears also offered him their defensive coordinator post. It was a tough decision for Fewell who has worked under both Tom Coughlin and Lovie Smith in his coaching past.

The Giants however, appear to be the more stable situation, with Lovie Smith’s future uncertain beyond 2010.

This likely removes him as a candidate for the Bills head coaching job.

Cowher waiting on Giants job
Chris Brown
Posted January 14th, 2010
Tags: Bill Cowher, Jerome Bettis
Many outside observers are wondering how long Bill Cowher is willing to wait before returning to coaching. According to Jerome Bettis, it’s until the Giants coaching job opens up.

Bettis, appearing on Sirius XM radio with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, said Cowher was hoping to land the Giants job in 2007 before Tom Coughling orchestrated a run to the Super Bowl title.

“That’s the team that he really coveted,” Bettis said. “This is where he always wanted to be. The Mara family, he’s been very close to them. … He’s known them very well and was on the inside track — before the Giants won the Super Bowl — for that job. And I think he’s holding out for that opportunity if it presents itself.”

Speculation in New York, including by Daily News Giants beat writer Ralph Vacchiano, is that Coughlin could be out the door as soon as next offseason if the Giants aren’t back in the playoffs in 2010.

Bettis even went so far as to say that Cowher will wait until the Giants job, and only the Giants job, opens.

“That’s what he’s doing,” said Bettis. ”That’s where he’s got his eyes.”

That would explain his apparent lack of interest in the Bills job, and potentially every other one that might come down the pike that’s not the Giants.

Brian Billick is available as a superbowl winning coach. (seems to want to come to buffalo)
Frazier is not a bad choice. (they compare him to Tony Dungy).
Grimm is possible.
Steve Mariucci is available maybe as on a staff.
Marc Trestman is available as a OC.

I heard Billick was on the radio in philly saying he would be interested in coaching here.
He has a ring, for crying out loud go after him!

If I was Buddy Nix, I'd coach the muther fukin team. He's 70, and has nothing else to prove than that HE is the shit. Bring in some genius coach, you win it all, and he basks in glory?? Naw, I'd hand pick MY OWN assistants, and ride the sidelines and assess afterward. I would ONLY be on the sidelines to remind them I was their boss. Trying to micro-manage has been Ralph's issue, and I wouldn't let it be mine. Put your snoot in it for 6 days and 23 hours, then take it out for the last 1.

My .20

For the last time - Brian Billick has said he hasn't been contacted once by the Bills, so the reason he's been overlooked is because there's no damn reason to believe he'll take the job if it isn't even being offered to him.

yea the paper today put billick pretty well. he had offensive mind in minnesota but the offense of the ravens did nothing, they won a superbowl but not based on offensive prowless. and Haslett won with losman they are not going to want loseman back again.

my top two picks at this time are Frazier (minnesota D coordinator) and Jim Harbaugh (stanford coach). i guess i don't know much about Grimm. but i would want Trestman as an OC if i coached.

Brian Billick definetly either will, or will not be the next Bills Head Coach. (H4)

We will find out soon.

Well, that may not be true. The Vegas odds on this are dropping every day that no selection is made. Hey, Ralph could die, and the team ends up as a legal commodity? This team is such a joke that guaranteeing they will even ever have another coach is actually in question. I, for one, know I wouldn't sit around writhing my little willie while the talent pooled got dryer and dryer. Heck, I wouldn't have opened the doors, and let all my pigeons(including the good ones) fly away, but that's just me.

It's kind of annoying. It seems like we are being pretty proactive in trying to find our next coach, but the candidates keep spurning us, and insulting the city. The truth is that our ownership is probably middling in the league in terms of quality, but the perception is that it's awful.

Wilson is not as bad a meddler as Jerry Jones, is not as financially irresponsible as Dan Snyder, and not as senile and incompetent as Al Davis. I give him some measure of respect in that he sees that the organization needs a bit of an overhaul, though like most of us, I would have preferred it to have happened a year ago.

Almost though cv. One 'bad night's sleep', and either one can become considerably worse in a moment. I'm not even dissing Ralph for being old, but he REALLY is. If I was him, I'd be scared shitless on a momentary basis.

i think it is the uncertainty of the team. I mean wilson is over 90, and already looks like a zombie. if his kids get the team the team is gone to the highest bidder. what coach is going to want to come here, coach say 3 years, then have to uproot his family because of the team moving. as well there is a possibility of a lockout happening in the NFL. your more than likely only going to get first time coaches, or those desperate to get a coaching job.

Report: Harbaugh out
Chris Brown
Posted January 16th, 2010
Tags: Jim Harbaugh
CBS Football analyst Charley Casserly reported on the NFL Today Saturday evening that Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh was a prime target of the Buffalo Bills for their head coaching position.

According to Casserly, not only was Harbaugh interviewed, but was offered the head coaching job. Casserly reports that Harbaugh turned it down, choosing to stay at Stanford.

It’s unclear if the heat of the college recruiting season influenced this reported decision by Harbaugh. Either way it appears a quality candidate is out of the mix.

...and who wants to coach through the "trust" period when Ralph passes. No one. It's gonna be ugly on many fronts.

Opportunity there for Grimm
Chris Brown
Posted January 16th, 2010
Tags: Russ Grimm
With the Cardinals now eliminated from the playoffs with their loss to New Orleans in the Divisional playoff round, we’re likely to find out once and for all if Russ Grimm is interested in the Bills job.

The Bills do have the ability to speak with Grimm now that the Cardinals’ season is over.

Grimm at one point (while Arizona was still a part of the postseason) mentioned that addressing head coaching jobs would happen “down the line” and that he had more important things to deal with, meaning preparing for the Cards playoff game against the Saints.

Now that the game has been played and the Cardinals season is over, it stands to reason that Grimm, one way or the other will let the Bills know whether he’s interested in interviewing or not in the next couple of days.
