For the Hart, people forget that's it's the most valuable player to his team, the one who has the greatest impact on the game and also his team's success.

Hey, take a look at Andre Dawson who won an MVP for a last place Cubs team.

I must be prophetic - I pipe up about Moulson being more consistent than Tavares and BLAM he scores tonight.

He's doing good, I hardly heard about him until he went to Long Island. SOB might notch 30 goals this year.

No one heard about him because until this season, he was a higher-profile lax player than hockey player (if that even makes sense). He was originally drafted by the Rochester Knighthawks but decided to play hockey instead.

Hart: Ovechkin - Simply the best player in the NHL.

Norris: Myers - Rookie or not, he's the best in game.

Vezina: Ryan Miller - No brainer.

Calder: Tyler Myers - see Norris

Adams: Lindy Ruff - Almost nobody saw the Sabres stunning resurgence coming.

Selke: Zach Parise - +22, dominant defensively and very productive offensively.

Myers is good. But he's not that good. Duncan Keith is having a phenomenal season. I think its his too lose at this point. As for the Hart, well I'm still pissed that Mason didnt get it last season as by definition he was the clear winner, but OV or Crosby takes it this year.

Dang, I've been busted. Here's my picks.

Hart - Ryan Miller. This award is intended to go to the player most valuable to his team, and Ryan Miller embodies that notion this season. Runner-up: Marian Gaborik

Norris - Duncan Keith. He's outright stealing the spotlight from more-heralded veteran defenseman with his phenomenal play. Lidstrom and Chara having barely-OK seasons are helping a lot. Runners-up: Andrei Markov, Dan Boyle

Vezina - Ryan Miller. Top three or higher in every stat, Miller's turned into a master of the ole grand larceny. Plus, he sucker-punches bitches in the mouf. Runners-up: Ilya Bryzgalov, Martin Brodeur

Calder - Tyler Myers. No other rookie's role is as prominent, depended on, and consistent as Myers, who is maturing and growing as a player by light years. He'll finish top five or higher in rookie scoring, and I don't see him losing his stranglehold on rookie TOI. Runners-up: Matt Duchene, Jimmy Howard

Adams - Dave Tippett. The Coyotes are relevant again, and haven't drafted any studs or acquired any top talent to make it happen. Then how, you ask? Dave Tippett. Runners-up: Lindy Ruff, Barry Trotz

Selke - Jordan Staal. No team wants to see a player lining up against their stars or playing the PK more than Jordan Staal. Runner-up: Zach Parise

I'm surprised there haven't been discussions about who will win the Lester B. Pearson award for most outstanding player in the league, which is what most people mistakenly think the Hart is awarded for.

I don't know why all these people have the opinion that a goaltender shouldn't win the Hart. It isn't an award for the most valuable player to his team as long as he's not a goalie. If a goalie is the most valuable player to his team out of the entire league, he gets the Hart. End of story.

the idea of hockey is to score more then the other team, and i feel the MVP should be the guy who does that for the most part, the most basic of all principals of the sport. the best goalie already gets the veznia, and in most cases, the jennings as well. now, if a goalie posts a 1.40 gaa and a .955 save percentage, then well, cant argue that.

but ovechkin cant win the veznia either, ya know?

now, the pearson award, sure, thats different.

Scoring more goals than the other team would be a mathematical equation along the lines of:

Goals scored - goals against.

You're stressing the first and ignoring the second.

well of course, and as a goalie, i love me some defensive hockey. im just not sure a goalie should be eligible for the hart, unless his numbers are astronomically abnormal. and millers are on that fringe.

How about for the Lester B. Pearson Award then.

I'd give it to Gaborik, he is the Rangers biggest threat, and he has done it relatively alone.

I would need to change this award to Ovechkin. Mr. Ovechkin has played in 38 games, and has 57 points.

In comparison, Sidney Crosby has played in 48 games and also has 57 points. Thorton has played in 48 games and has 61 points, and finally Gaborik has played in 42 games with 54 points.

Ovechkin is without a doubt the best player in the league. He is scoring at a 1.5 points per game right now this year. Had he played in all of the 46 games his team has played in, I could see Ovechkin at almost 70 points. Or at least 10 points higher than he has now.

C'mon, Hasek deserved those Harts when he was on Buffalo.
