11th on the team in total Time on ice, (his best stat amoung the group, but for 7 million a year, I think you should be atleast 7th)

He is being beat by MIKE GRIER in even strength goals. An older hard working grinder is outscoring Vanek in even strength situations.

But seriously Thomas, why do you need to write a biography? Too much distraction for scoring some goals? Play some god damn hockey and stop all that misc shit!

How do you figure he's 1st on the team in missed shots? he shoots at 12.4%...where did you pull that stat out from?

He's 5th on the team in shooting percentage, and he's tied for 1st on PPGs...not to mention he leads the team in goals screened...maybe he does a little bit more than just put up points.

But whatever, yes, I'm the first to admit that he's having an off year, but at the same time, he's not taking stupid penalties (ahem Kennedy, Roy, Mair) and he's adding things away from the play as well, such as his strong puck possession down low, and his work ethic in front of the net.

While he's not scoring a ton of points, he's hardly ineffective. And that 7M a year thing is bullshit, because you and I both know that if he went to EDM on that offer sheet, EVERYONE would be pissed that we let our 3 leading scorers (Drury, Briere, Vanek) walk in 1 off-season.

I was unaware Vanek was a dog, and even more so unaware that he was female! ah...i suppose you learn something new every day.

It's not like Vanek hasn't been getting chances either. One of the reasons behind his struggles, and I don't know if there are stats to verify this, but we have been having trouble getting shots through to the net, or getting shots at all on the power play. That takes away a lot of Vanek's effectiveness right there.

When vanek hits the net...pretty accurate...

When he shoots in general...not so accurate.


I really actually do want to see him do better, but it pains me to watch him float around.

My biggest gripe with him is that wimpy slash thingy he does, he isn't even aiming at the puck! If a defender has the puck in the offensive zone, he'll not move his feet and continue to just turn the wrong way. Almost as if he has bad hockey sense.

But like I said, I want him to do better. I know this was too much of a joke topic to make a serious discussion, but...

I really did like when we drafted this guy. I'm somewhat of a Gopher's follower, and I actually WANTED for us to draft him over Phaneuf anyway, so i'm not going to bring that up.

Now put Grier/Gaustad/Ellis/Rivet heart into Vanek, and I think he'd be a solid player.

He will always score goals. If you goto the net on a regular basis, you will score goals. Disadvantage to that? If you stay there, and don't move, the other team is going to score too. I want to see more out of a player that takes up 1/7th our entire team's cap room.

So here's to Vanek kicking it into gear. We can't afford to have unused assets come playoff time.
