Apparently it's Paul Hamilton for San Jose and LA, that may not be too bad. I think I'd rather have him than Sylvester.

I really hope they can get Kielbeck for some of them.

Hey, if taking the Big Western Road Trip off is enough to keep RJ from retiring, I'll listen to anyone. Even the horrible Tampa Bay announcers.

Oh my God, when I was typing my post I was thinking about them too. The color commentator has the most annoying voice known to mankind.

Remember that absolutely wretched video on YouTube of Ovechkin's hit on Briere? Everytime I see it, I visibly cringe when the words "Mad scrum in front of the net" come over my speakers.

I didn't think Sylvester was all that bad. Not saying he was great, but he was tolerable.

Maybe by the end of the game he seemed to get more into it and comfortable but I switch to the Islanders feed for the first couple periods. Maybe Kevin needs some more experience to find his own way of calling but I agree with some of you. He doesn't seem as much of a fan as RJ is but either is Harry. At least Harry is a hockey fan, Kevin doesn't seem to even be that.

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

I really don't need a lot of emotion during the play-by-play. Actually I wouldn't mind if nobody said a word during the action. I only would like some commentary between whistles and player/coach/strategy insights, or opinions/explanations on close officiating calls.

Sometimes RJ gets a little convoluted in his calls, and of course Harry makes some strange comparisons/sayings and just sounds drunk sometimes. I'd like, in most sports, for there to be less talk and let the action speak for itself. With the mostly non-stop action in hockey there really doesn't need to be a lot of talk.

I thought he was going to be absolutely terrible and suck the life out of the game, but from what I heard I have to give him credit. He wasn't bad at all.

Tampa Bay called and they want you to do a shitty play-by-play for their next game.

C'mon man..nobody saying a word in the game? This isn't baseball my friend. Hockey fans want play-by-play, not what the Sabres did on this day 20 years ago or what the weather is like in California.

I didn't say that's how it SHOULD be. I was saying that I personally don't need a bunch of talk during the play, especially innocuous BS like old stuff and weather. Besides, what do you do when (if) you go to games. Do you need a radio feed in your ear? I like hearing the action, the skates, the hits, the puck on the shot or off the boards. If you like hearing a guy tell you exactly what is in front of your eyes - as if you couldn't tell - then fine. To each their own.

I agree...I didn't find him "cringe worthy" as a lot of other people did.

Good Lord. I can't even describe how horrible that was.

Anyone know what the guy's problem was? Was he not a good reader or something?

Looking through the comments people are saying that the real sports reporter was a no show and the teleprompter was fucked up. I guess putting a person with no experience in front of a wonky teleprompter is a recipe for disaster. Who would have thought. Who really knows what the deal was though. I just feel bad for the poor guy. I give him props for sticking it out till the bitter end...I probably would have burst into tears and ran off set in the middle of the report.

He did seem to be a tad better at the end.

I watched the first period on TV literally had RJ going in my head - I think I could have called it better than he did.

I had to listen to the rest of the game on the radio, and it was tough at times, but for the most part I knew what was going on. He got better into the end of third and OT.

Except for when Connolly shot in the SO he didn't say anything until the shot was over.

But for being an intermission/postgame host, it wasn't bad.

I remember Paul Hamilton doing a decent job last year.
