If the NHL wants to open up the game, why when a forward dumps the puck past a defenseman, said defenseman is allowed to hook, grab, hold, pin, interfere with the forward any time within the next eight seconds?

Because they don't call the game like it was in 05-06 or 06-07 anymore.

As I said in the GDT, the call on Rivet was horseshit. The Bruins player was holding onto Rivet's stick like it was the last fucking raft on the Titanic.

Yeah, this is one of my biggest gripes about how they've relaxed on calling the game. Should be interference.

They're returned to 2001 hockey. The mandate of removing obstruction has been forgotten.

This isn't the fault of the players, they're only doing what they've been allowed to get away with.

Yeah. I saw that like a billion times in last night's game. It happens every time somebody dumps the puck in. It should be interference.

Granted I don't have a problem with a defender rubbing a guy out along the boards. Certainly there should be some window of opportunity to lay a hit, but there was at least one instance in which interference was egregious and never called.

Puck goes along the halfboards, gaustad and a duck skate for the puck. The ducks defenseman boxes Gaustad out, never touches the puck. Um didn't Pat Kaleta get called for interference on an identical play earlier in the year?
