So, when did miller start sucking at shootouts? He used to be the freaking MAN when it came to them, always so patient and unflappable, waiting on the shooter to commit one way or another and then cut him off, it was a thing of beauty.

lately...not so much. He's been seriously lackluster in shootouts this year, I'm just wondering what has changed.

Any opinions?

(and before the collective panties of this place get all knotted and wound up, I love our guy, he's our MVP, and we would not be where we are now without him and his amazing skills. But shootouts...)

Last year he was awful in them, in the beginning of the year he seemed to have his groove back but not so much as of late.

2 years ago he was awful. Last year through the first couple months of the season he was great. Now he's slacked off a bit. I'm sure he'll eventually figure it out eventually. Not like it's a needed skill in the playoffs though.

True that :text-+1:

As long as we don't miss the playoffs again by a point or two i'm okay with them losing these because their such a crapshoot.

Shootouts = Suck

Whether Miller is getting beat on breakaways means nothing to me, as it's an unfair fight to begin with and shouldn't be used to evaluate a goalie.

It's stupid to judge who wins a team sport based on the skills of 4 individuals on a 23 man roster team.

Miller's shootout performance wouldn't matter if we had shooters that could put the biscuit in the basket.

While those are all valid points, the fact of the matter is that Miller used to be a shootout god, and now he is not. All other factors aside, what happened?

Kinda sucks that we've lost 5 straight shootouts, but let that be our worst problem.

Maybe he can only focus fully on one aspect of his game at a time.

I'd bet, though, that he would still stonewall a penalty shot.

Law of averages maybe?

It's bound to happen for any goalie. You have tendencies, and as shooters get more tape on you, they'll learn to exploit those.

It would also help if, as XC said, our boys would score a few for him.

He was awesome in SO's last year, and the beginning of this year, too.

Not sure what happened, but he's horrible now. Seems if the team goes stick side on him, they always score.

Must be a mental thing...I bet once he wins one he'll be alright again. But yeah, I've been pretty disappointed with his shootout performances lately. Two years ago he struggled, but last year he was back to his old self again, and he was awesome early in the season when we won that Calgary game.

Here's hoping we just don't go to many more shootouts this season because they're just too damn nerve wracking for me!

Everyone is doing that forehand straight to backhand thing on every goalie in the league now.

I mean EVERYONE is doing the same move that is ridiculous to stop.

Happy Birthday Fly!!

I'm exhausted from these last few games. Sooo close.

I have never played Hockey, so I am probably way off here, but........I think Miller comes to far out from the net. I would think he would be much better staying close and tight. Yes?? No???

Depends how close the shooter is.
Far away shooter you come out of net to cut the angle.

Miller is technically very sound in this respect.

There may be a larger number xcheck, but I think the message is delivered. I hope they make a move at or near the deadline. I loved that Horton for Mac and Staff idea. Anything to push them over the top.

Yea, Kots perfected the fake wrister/fore-to-backhander - goalie shows strong side protection, go to the move...goalie shows he knows the move, send a rocket past him.

All three of the shooters LA had tried to do that move, Stafford went five hole, but Pominville and Connolly both did that move last night.
