This story reminds me of the first time I went frisbee golfing at a particular state park. I remember pulling up to the gate where there was a machine set up so you could buy a day pass to display on your dashboard.

Anyway, I was pulled over at this machine paying, when I noticed a car pull up next to me on the right. Same make and model as mine. I look at the guy in the other car and we exchange head nods. But then it occurs to me there's something strange going on here because the guy appears to be wearing a breastplate. I ask my friends in the car did they just see what I saw, but none of them had seen the guy.

So we drive into the park and down to the disc golf course and start playing. But there's a sign up at the first tee that says holes 12-14 are closed and to play through. We start seeing all these people dressed as knights and midevil damsels and such carrying swords and sheilds around.

Probably you can see where this is going. There was a Renaissance festival or Society of the creative anachronism or whatever. It was pretty surreal though I have to tell you, and pretty hard not to crack up at the absurdity of it all. Here we are, drinking beer and smoking cigarettes playing frisbee golf, looking at these people dressed in middle ages garb, thinking "Freaks", while they were probably there looking at us with our frisbees and beer thinking the same thing about us.

Funny the hobbies people find for themselves.

Oh my.

I laughed far too much at that story than was probably appropriate.

I commended and scolded myself for knowing what LARPing is.

It would have been funny if they had caught sabretooth getting in on the action. He's probably pretty lonely haha

I mean, I played D&D when I was kid and even a few times in high school, so I'm not totally against the idea. But it's hard for me to get one particular image out of my mind. I remember seeing this guy pull into the parking lot in a pickup truck blasting some really bad hip-hop with the windows down, so loud that it was obvious he was looking to be noticed for his car stereo. Then he gets out and he's dressed as a knight or whatever. I just thought it was so incongruous to see those two things together I couldn't stop laughing. I started making up a rap where I was saying stuff like "he pulled out his gun, and I had to get midevil on his ass".

Ah good times, good times. But seriously, that guy was a freak.

I can't rightly judge people for LARPing (which I had to look up BTW) when I have like 10 different frisbees I use for different types of shots in frisbee golf, and a bag designed specifically for disc golf frisbees. Or, at least I can't say you're any bigger a nerd than I am. ;)

A furry convention that close to San Francisco actually is probably as wrong as you may imagine.
These aren't folks acting out some anime or HALO 3.

I've got a bunch more but that's the most interesting ;)

My daughter said "Hockey players make me feel like marrying Dad...I want to marry a hockey player."
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised I've created the next generation of puck bunny but I need to get her out on the ice so she knows it's not just for the boys.

Not your average role players ;)

Dear Sabresjunkie Fans,

There's nothing out of the ordinary about a Furry Convention; they are perfectly well adjusted people.

Sincerely,
The Trekkies and Star Wars Groupies

Amazing...

When I was in Chicago over the summer there was some comic book convention at the hotel I was staying at... Man those people were nuts. I got such a kick out of them in their elaborate outfits. Gotta love it.

This.

We fired a guy about 6 months ago that was into all the 'furry' shit.

We had to go through his email after he was let go for contacts on some things he was working on, and after that I can only describe him using two words:

Sexual deviant.

Between that and youtube videos of the guy in a dog costume crawling around sniffing real dogs butts, I'll never have a positive opinion of people who do that.

 I love that they stopped and posed with people. I would get a kick out of doing that, myself.

I know! I should have taken pictures with the Comic Con people when I was in Chicago. That hotel was poppin' at night...you didn't even have to leave if you wanted to go out for some drinks, there was just as much entertainment in the hotel lobby than you would find at any bar or club.
