Kotalik was soooo good. I never got nervous when he was shooting.

CX, But Miller must skate backwards quickly, while the shooter seems to have the advantage of skating forward and knowing exactly where the net is. It seemed like Miller was very far out. Again....just an observation from someone with no clue!

When you come that far out of the net it cuts the angle off, sometimes it really helps goalies and if you're good it can really confuse the puck carrier.

I think Miller should go for the poke check more since he comes out that far, Lalime went for it a few times and got it.

Its all in the fake. Miller didn't used to bite but now he is. Therefore he is a split second off.

Every single guy scoring on Miller is doing it on the backhand..

Must stop biting on the fake shot.. They know they can beat you on the backhand..

Not worried about the shootout per se; it's more about the points we're not picking up off of shootouts.

fair point

my view, we need to play a real hockey game, and not let a skills competition decide things

my world, we should be 0-0 in SOs

Being a goalie in the shootout sucks. Those fake shots are very hard to read. If Miller doesn't 'bite' on the fake shot but then somebody actually lets it rip into the top corner then he looks like a fool for not moving. It's a mind game. I think Miller needs to be a bit more unpredictable and mix it up. Throw in a poke check or two.Or maybe fake the poke check. That fucks up players big time.

Shootouts still suck.

I agree with the few guys who mentioned our shooters. Was Miller really that good int the past. Or did it appear that way b/c we had more shooters scoring for us.

If I remember right, in 06-07 he was at around 80% save pct, which dipped to near 50% in 07-08.

I think this season he's sitting around 60-70%.

Yeah, he was. And it was his patience and confidence that really struck me back then. He had this aura of "You sure as shit aint gettin that puck past ME", and usually, they didnt.

The picture of him pumping his glove hand after a shootout win is one I used to see frequently.

I think that shootout performance is lagely cyclical. The Goaltender adapts to the shooters who adapt to the goaltender and so on. I'm sure we'll see Miller's shootout performance start to rise again.

Well when the shootout first came about players needed to make moves, after the 4 years of seeing how successful the forehand fake to backhand shot is more and more shooters are using it.

goaltenders will start to adapt to that move real soon and you'll see another cycle of goaltenders stepping it up in the shootouts again.

It will be like the natural offense-defense cycle in hockey, only sped up.

Hm, I like the cyclical theory, I wonder what Millers next evolution will look like.

Maybe Miller hasn't been as good because he has no one to practice against? Who is our best shooter now? Before you knew exactly who was going out to shoot. Now it's a crap shoot. "Hey (insert name) go give it a shot" Someone with Vanek's, Connelly's, Roy or Pommer's skill should be able to score on a more regular basis. There is not really an excuse to go down and miss then net. How many times have we seen these guys go down and try going 5-hole? How often does that really work. I don't get to worked up about it because it is a shootout and in most cases this year, the 1 point we got off the loss is more than we deserved. If we're not having success in the shootout, play better in the first 60-65 minutes.
