Think I'm gonna bang out 1,000 yds in the pool today (40 laps). And its NOT METERS! This is AMERICA!

Haha, yeah 40 laps is a good work out...I used to swim for the YMCA team when I was 14-18; my practices used to suck though. I trained to swim the 500 yd and 200 yd events. So I'd do roughly 3500-4000 yards in a typical practice.

Used to hate my set of 10- 100's on the 2:30 interval...that's fucking tough when you're in shape, my heart would probably give way now, lol.

I try to exercise every day. I usually run on the elliptical for about 35 minutes. For resistance, I do some crunches, leg lifts, and planks... I'm not so good with those as I am about running. I run almost every day, and I would like to do the resistance every day as well, but it's more like 3 times a week.

I'm a pretty healthy eater I'd say. I cut out pop a few years ago, but I wasn't much of a pop drinker in the first place so it wasn't difficult. I usually always just drink water and herbal and green tea.

Oh, I forgot. I try to swim every summer. I have a real nice inground pool so I try to take advantage of that and do some laps in the morning.

I forgot to mention this...

A friend of mine (aka very attractive female that I was willing to make any excuse to see) suggested I try hot yoga. I've been going for a few weeks now (twice without her!) and it's actually pretty good.

Hot yoga is just regular yoga but in sauna like conditions, with no talking or noise in the studio. It's a workout practically and you feel incredible afterwards. Guys out there who judge and claim its for "fags" need to realize that its just 2-3 guys in a room of 30 girls wearing tight skimpy clothes doing awkward positions. It's a good time.

Birkam Yoga? IThat's becoming pretty trendy...around here at least. There's a studio on Elmwood and when I walk by I can see the people in there, it looks prettayyyy hot in there haha.

I wish I knew yoga...I've gone to a few classes when I belonged at a gym but I felt like I was one of the few who was inexperienced. I need to take a beginners class or something, yoga seems so beneficial. I heard the Wii Fit yoga is actually pretty good, but I don't have a Wii.

Well, you guys may be able to help me.

I have the availability to a gym (as part of being a grad student at GMU) for free.
I'm contracted to be at my cubicle for 4 hr/day (20hr/week).

I know this question is really up to me in the end, but when do people find it's easier to talk yourselves into going and working out. Mornings or After work? I can go at 8:30am when I drive into work, or 3:00PM after I'm done working.
It's not that I don't want to, it's finding the time to do it and feeling afterwards I didn't lose 45 minutes on getting more research/homework etc.. done.

I'm around 235 (not proud of that at all) and would like to get into the 190's by the summer.

I'm going to do strictly cardio (30 minute runs on the treadmill, or riding the bike) as someone (trainer) told me that to lose body fat the best thing is cardio. Once I start getting closer to 190's then I'm going to do more toning on my upper body (pecs and abs) with free weights and machines. Is this a good idea (to people who may know better)?

Gracias!

Damn, I give my older YMCA swimmers ten 100s on 1:50...no wonder they hate me :D

I gotta make sure not to sit in the hot tub after a swim workout...its just sooo inviting

Not so bad Los, but the 10-100's were all sprint style. So Sprint one out in about 53 seconds, then rest for a mintue and change, and do it again.

My full workout looked something like

500 yard warm up

2-500's on the 8 minutes

5-200's on the 3:00

10-100's on the 2:30 (sprints)

then between 200-500 yards cool down, strictly stroke work.

Oh okay, I was gonna say...so it was like a lactic acid set? What was your best 2 and 5 time?

My best 200 is 1:56

My best 500 was 5:17

Nothing too special, but I was still decent.

Damn straight--If you can't entertain us with splits at the next M & G, don't even bother showing up.

Buffalo has great swimmers out there. Especially Orchard Park...I used to coach with a guy that swam at the Lockport YMCA.
...those are very solid times though, defenitely better than "decent"!

played WiiFit plus today. Thought it was a good thing for the long winter months for cold blooded people and those who just don't dig the gym or outdoors.

found out that people take BMI seriously. People, BMI is just height vs. weight. "healthy" BMI's are just blanket terms. for example, when i got certified for wrestling last, (state mandate for college and high school) my fat percentage was 13. the absolute minimum you can wrestle at was 7%. obese fat % is like 25 and over. however, my BMI is like 35, because it doesn't take into account muscle mass or width of a person.

around my shoulders, my measurement is 48". a typical measurement at my height is about 38". there's a lot of weight lost there.

BMI sucks. don't lean too hard on it.
