Just came across this and I have to comment. The only place where hockey is or was ever considered a religion is Montreal to be honest. Back in the days of Richard, Montreal fans were fighting for their identity. Their team represented their 'struggle' as french Canadians. Richard was basically their God and they all wanted to be like him.
