Yankee has a point about equal measures of respect for threads for non-believers and religious folks alike.

And out of curiosity...how come you've not graced us with some sort of wisdom from the one book you've read, 1984...I thought Orwell had the answer to everything?

Nah, Orwell was an idiot...Aldous Huxley, however, predicted the future PERFECTLY.

I tried to address the concern before the all in fun hijacking started.

It's absurd how spot on he was. My brother has a copy he's read so many times, it's falling apart at the seams!

So If I go to the christian thread, and actually make a serious post, i'm then free to post some stupid bullshit like various pies? Is that what the rule is now?

Squanto, i've always respected the way you've done your job on here, your contribution and tolerance of this particular attempt at threadjacking has very much surprised me. I realize you also shared SATW's 'ruling' in that thread, but unless i'm mistaken you just said something like "everyone respect everyone"...which seems like common sense. Mods giving warnings to people because they didnt like one member who was actually putting down bible verses for discussion seems much more grievous to me.

Enough. Your question had already been addressed - twice. Our job is not to explain our every motivation to your satisfaction, but rather keep heated topics away from the flames for the good of all forum members. As previously stated, the Christian thread was meant for those wishing to discuss passages not debate religion.

Your original intent was very transparent. Test the newbie Mod in public rather than sending a p.m. If you would like to discuss evolution, please start a thread as such and those that wish to partake may do so. It will be given the same consideration from Mods that the Christian thread has.

Same goes for a discussion about Atheism.

Wisdom can come from many sources, Grasshopper. Often times wisdom comes not from what we say but how we say it. I say: Have a beer.

Guys, this really is the mods vs yankee, and he's got a legit point, if not about SATW's wording in the Christianity thread, then most definitely about the fact that the mods basically just shat in their hands, threw it in his face, pointed, and laughed.

He's grasping at straws to argue SATW was targeting Pants' *intent*, but still, everything else, spot on...

Contributing to the threadjacking maybe wasn't the greatest idea. Point taken.

I felt that while Pants was not intending to be antagonistic with his comments in that thread, they seemed to be coming close to it. I can also understand how some on the other side of the discussion wouldn't take very kindly to what was said. That's why I chimed in with my thoughts, and a gentle reminder about respect.

As the thread progressed, it seemed like the general tone was getting nastier. Had SATW not asked all parties to calm down, I would have.

Religious topics are tough. People are very sensitive to those types of discussions. It's difficult on mods because we're trying to walk a fine line between preventing an explosion, and allowing the discussion to continue.

I don't think for one second that SATW was trying to abuse his authority or create some kind of standard about what was OK and what was not. I think he was thinking the same as I was, that the temperature of the thread was getting pretty hot, and needed to be cooled down a bit.

NO ONE WAS ARGUING RELIGION. We were talking about bible verses.
If I wanted to debate religion I would bring up points about how it lacks any shred of proof... No, here I was talking EXACTLY about the topic the thread was created for.

I could have been given a warning in PM or in public too you know... Make a scene to suggest that anything other than yay-jesus comments won't be tolerated.

I showed bible passages. I wanted people to discuss. People were offended by the 'word of god'. Thats where people SHOULD be focusing their attention, on their own insecurities

Excuse me? I asked multiple questions, and no, they have not been fully addressed. Not even close.

SchonyGal wrote:

I did not ask for anyones motivation, I asked why there was this seeming double standard when it comes to religious threads and every other thread. I still have not received an answer for that.

SchonyGal wrote:

EVEN given that pants's intentions were probably to 'stir the pot'...he did QUOTE FROM THE BIBLE. I, For one, would like to actually hear what christians have to say for these obviously contradictory verses. If they have the courage of their convictions they should not have any problem talking about these particular verses. Hell, I wasnt even planning on posting in there, but the fact that the conversation was aborted (sorry, had to) prematurely because of (in my opinion) over modding was quite bothersome. and the purpose for this thread.

SchonyGal wrote:

Time to get a new antenna for that womens intuition. I'd have started this thread whoever took the actions SATW did. I've made serious points about pretty apparent double standards, and i've not received any sort of satisfying answer. If i'm not going to GET one, well tough shit for me then. But you have no idea what my intent was. Haha, when SATW was made a new mod I was like "hm, who the hell is this person?" I really did not remember them, I have no grudge against whoever they are, and they were only mentioned because they were the impetus for this thread.

I think you're spot on with the assessment there...I just think that Yankee took SATWs post at face value, and not the intended message...the way his post was worded, plain as day, says "leave the christians alone".

I think we could all see that while Pants was following the "intent" of the thread, it wasn't along with the purpose.

It's like saying you need to get rid of the mice in your house. You can clean up the crumbs they're eating, or you can kill them all.... Rut wants to talk about cleaning, and Pants bought a cat.

He posted verses that are controversial, but didn't seem to want to discuss them, or there was a litany of verses that were posted with NO discussion, thereby derailing the intent, and making it seem like an attack.

If the thread wasn't jacked, Cross was locking it down, anyway. It should not have been started to begin with since it's just a belligerent grievance directed at another thread. This should have been handled civilly as a complaint via PM as SATW suggested at the beginning.

The jacking, btw, was hilarious!

I have only one question:

How many atheist belong in the Christian members thread??

I'd assume it would be the same number that go to church.

I understand it was about discussing bible versus, but it's CALLED the "Christian members thread". While I was raised Christian, and still believe in God, I purposely stayed out out of RESPECT(I know, it's a tough concept), because I am skeptical.

See the "seething religion thread"

Wouldn't it be better to find out in there, to read the interpretations of the "message of god" from true believers?
