Who would you guys be fine with/want to trade for a deadline player?

Mine - MacArthur, Butler, Lydman, Tallinder, Stafford, Roy.

I'm reluctant to say MacArthur because of how hard I see him work, but he's not producing. I wouldn't miss Stafford, Sekera, and Lalime.

Depends on what we're getting in return.

But Pominville, Lydman, Lalime.... the usual suspects.

That's tough. I would want MacArthur and Butler out of the lineup right now, but I don't want them to get traded because they are young, cheap and talented.

I guess I wouldn't miss Lalime, Lydman, Hecht and Stafford in case you can get some decent players in return.

I will preface this by saying we don't need to make major changes. We are good enough to finish 3'rd to sixth in the East.

Anyone who can be moved for an upgrade I am okay with seeing leave. You always improve your team if the opportunity arises; even if you're first overall, and/or coming off of a Stanley Cup winning season. Never become complacent.

I don't see us as a threat to make a deep run in the playoffs without another (PP and top 4) defenseman, and another forward who can score to play second or third line minutes.

I don't think there are any juggernauts in the league this year. If there is a season to try and move to put us over the top, this is it.

Thanks Howie. Wholesale changes would be insane.

no one wants a whole sale change. but if they can improve with a top-four d-man (PHANUEF! PAIR HIM WITH MYERS! HAHAHA) and a top 6 winger, bingo bango.

Phaneuf has reportedly asked for a trade, and they need scoring. The Sabres have surplus scoring talent, and could use a proven veteran to play with Myers. I like the cut of your jib on this one, Mike.

If he scores one goal next game, he leads the team in goals. Not sure how that's unproductive.

Trade Lydman so they still have a capable defenseman for the playoffs, plus Stafford/MacArthur and promote Gerbe or Ennis from Portland.

its not wise to move someone to make room for an AHL player who hasnt produced in the NHL before the playoffs.

I don't see MacArthur having long term value to the team. Gerbe and/or Ennis are going to take his spot soon. Since Mac is the kind of young, cheap, talent that could be decent trade bait, he should be the top candidate to go. His defensive game stinks, and his plus/minus proves that.

Butler is possibly a bust, but with Tallinder, Lydman, and Paetsch probably leaving in the summer, it would be real tough to trade Butler unless it's for another d-man (PP point man hopefully).

Tallinder and Lydman may both be needed for the playoffs, especially Tallinder. So despite them being pending UFAs they would be tough choices to trade.

In rough order from good trade options to poor, I would have...

MacArthur
Lydman
Stafford
Butler
Roy
Tallinder
(various prospects like Gerbe, Gragnani, Mancari)

Pominville, Hecht, and Vanek have contracts that make them fairly untradeable, so I don't even consider them as options.

gerbe would get eaten up in the western conference though i do like the phaneuf idea. I also wouldn't be against looking at Volchenkov over the summer. two big bruising d-men to join the d we have.

It is wise when the reward is a defenseman as physical and dominating as he is.

I don't see a huge loss subbing Gerbe or Ennis for MacArthur. Defensively, I might even see a gain.

ennis might be a highly rated prospect, but from everything ive ever heard, he is a one-dimensional player who only and always thinks offense offense offense.
