Let me preface this by saying that I do not want to bash anyone's beliefs, but perhaps find a convincing argument to counter my doubts. I went to St Mary's Roman Catholic church on Main Street in Lockport for 14 years, EVERY 4:30 Saturday Mass. I was an alter server, and participated in most holiday masses.

I guess my real point of contention in the Bible is that it is so old...that outside the ten commandments, times were different. Manual labor, not computers, ruled the world. People *were* property, and prior to JC, following the Bible was just the same as worshiping Zeus, Tartarus, Cronus, or any of the other mythological Gods.

I see Jesus Christ as the Barack Obama of 2000 years ago, and I'm not saying it to be argumentative. I'm making the comparison because those people, as people of today, needed a savior, needed a change and the promise of hope. Information is more available and reliable today than it was then, and as such, I have my doubts. I suppose that's why they call it faith...

Does God have a sense of humor? If not, why create it? If so, do you think He finds ETC funny? What would make God laugh? Is it blasphemy to suggest that Jesus could have brought the house down, or that Mohammed would have had them rolling in the aisles?

These are things I think about when I'm sober.

This is an extremely important point to any discussion of the authority of the Bible. Its books were picked and cannonized by humans, humans with specific interests to protect. As such Basing all arguments on the Bible loses a lot of validity in my eyes.

However, saying that this was done in Rome is not correct, and Squanto, your arguments are often too well formed and intelligent for me to let you keep saying that. Much of the official formalizing of Catholic (and Eastern Orothodox) cannon and ritual was done during the reign Roman emperor Constantine in 324. But though he was Roman, the actual decisions were made in Constantinoble, and in Trent and Nicea and the Councils of Trent and Nicea.

I think God has a sense of humor, my dad and I always joke about that... his usual response is "I bet God leaned over to Moses and said 'Watch This' and he got a kick out of it" lol... Idk I guess it depends on humor as God sees it but not as humans see it... I tend to view it as since God is supreme and has knowledge beyond our understanding that he laughs at things we wouldnt get. Kinda like the smart geeks in the class joking about how the Hydrogen and Oxide went to the Science lab or something, Its stuff Normal people wouldnt get but they do... thats just how I view it. But I certainly believe God has a sense of humor.

Personally, I think I'm God's favorite person to play practical jokes on. At least it seems that way. He seems amused, but I'm usually not.
