I have had 2 ipods and thats it. My Ipod Video fried after a year... just the harddrive was shot for no reason, my IT guy couldnt figure out what happened. So i bought a touch and I love it... but im not sold on the Mac's computer... Everyone claims they have the best anti virus... when really its ppl havent made a direct virus for the Mac yet, because more ppl us PC. But once Mac catches on Virus's will start popping out for it... and Beware Ye All. Mac will fail!!!! lol :) But I have an ASUS laptop and havent had any problems with it at all. And ive been off anti-virus for over 5 months :P

I was hoping for the iPhone to Verizon announcement today, but it's more likely to come once Verizon goes to their LTE network.

I'm going to get an iPhone once I can upgrade without paying ridiculous prices on the 3Gs.

But Apple is ridiculously overpriced, their stuff works fine and dandy, but you could build a PC for a quarter of the price and make it run better than a Mac.

And in the hacker test of all the new OS's about a year ago, the first to be cracked was Mac's OS X or whatever the newest one is, so are you really safer with them or not?

They can't.

iPhone / iPhone3g / iPhone3GS all run on GSM. Verizon Wireless runs on CDMA/EV-DO. The two formats are incompatible.

LTE is on the road to 4G. It's closer to GSM technology than CDMA/EV-DO is, so it would take less effort for Apple to redesign to phone down the road to include GSM and LTE radios .

The Droid is a great phone. The only downside is that to use the VPN stuff, you have to root it. The iPhone has it built in.

All 5 iPods I've had shit the bed. One because of old age, so that was understandable. However, the other 4 imploded (not literally) just after the warranty experied. I'm a PC and now Zune user and couldn't be happier. Zune/Microsoft have much better customer service and I don't have to deal with "Geniuses" and booking appointments at the Apple store just so they can tell me my iPod doesn't work anymore. Looks like an overpriced P.O.S. that everyone is going to eat up because of the bandwagon effect.

Yes, you are.
Until Apple has something like 30% market share (read: not anytime soon) hackers and the developers of malware viruses etc. will still pick on windows as the easiest and most prolific target.

It's called security through obscurity.

There are proof of concept OS X viruses, but that's all they are...proof of concept.

Cross, I didn't want you to actually answer that question, haha.

I know you are safer with them, but why pick on the non majority anyways, just like you said.

More users to exploit on PC than Mac.

Indeed.

The software architecture of Windows is much more patchwork than OS X too. There was a bug fixed last week that was originally identified in like Win95 and never fixed. There's tons of legacy shit in there that's exploitable.

OS X has that to a point, but 10.6 was a significant cleanup of much of the codebase. The big thing was that all the PowerPC code was pulled, so just about every core feature of the OS got looked at and touched up. You've very less likely to find legacy security vulnerabilities on OS X than Windows.

The market share thing is a big thing too. It's not worth someone's time to write malware for OS X. Even if you did put something out that worked, and you nailed a couple percent of the installed userbase, how many machines does that get you? A million at best? The same effort can be put into Windows malware that can self-replicate into massive spamming botnets.

There's something to be said for the Unix security model too. Windows doesn't have that, OS X is built off of it.

the thing i dont like about droid is i hate slide open phones. i want my phone to not be a cheap piece of crap in terms of construction.

I think the Droid is designed great, I was messing with one and the slide out feature isn't as shoddy as other phones.

I think with a Droid it's one of the best sliders, and with the amount of phones now as a slider, many do not have a shoddy construction on them anymore. Maybe two or three years ago when they first started out they sucked, but now most don't break unless you purposely crack it open.

I have a slider phone and I would agree with you with that. I hate it but with that said, I heard that the motorola droid is very solid slider. Also, if you want an android phone without a slider and you have verizon, then this is for you

So, it's a huge bulky iphone without the telephone capabilities. Where do I get one?

I've also not been a fan of sliding phones, but the Droid did feel very solid to me.

My boss is the one who bought it, and he usually breaks a phone every 6 months, so time will tell. :)

I'm surprised no one here has a blackberry... Maybe its a Canadian phenomenon, but they're by far the most popular smartphones here (on campus anyways)
