WOW, this sucks. This was one of the biggest reasons I was looking forward to this game.

Yeah, I don't want to think of another game without RJ.

I didn't care for Sylvester. Paul Hamilton was a bit better (but he needs to learn NOT to get excited when the other team scores) but I dislike him on principal. The guy from the Hamilton Bulldogs was very acceptable though! Any chance we could woo him across the border?

OK listen, if we run a hard line from the arenas to RJ's house, he can call the games from home in real time, right?

ya, maybe a bit too ambitious.

We need faster satellites NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RJ's resting up for Friday! He'll surely kick some ass upon his return!

I liked Kouleas. He did a good job explaining the game and had a smooth play by play, other than constantly calling Tallinder Lydman.

I think hamilton would have done a better job. no one can beat RJ but i always thought hamilton did a good job when he filled in.

Same, I was surprised when they announced it wasn't Hamilton. Probably just trying out a variety of different announcers to see who could be the best replacement when RJ finally does step down. They should try Maria Genero next ;)

I believe the next substitute (if RJ needs another break along the way) is scheduled to be Harry Neale's son Barry.

;)

How about Bob Cole? Just for Old times sake, Howie :P j/k

When we met Harry last fall, I mentioned to him I followed HNIC since I was a kid with him and Bob Cole, and he looked at me and said, Bob who? LOL!!!! Totally joshing and all, but still, it was awesome!

One thing to some announcers.

I don't care where a guy is from. Really. I don't need to hear, "Smith, the Winchestertonfieldville native..." ever.

Yes, he was. He mentioned NJ shooting the puck into "enemy territory" and when a NJ player broke a stick, he said luckily there were no negative consequences.

He also has an annoying, flinty, lispy voice more suited to broadcasting fashion shows than hockey. He mixed up names constantly - seemingly every shift - even somehow calling Connolly "Miller" in the closing minutes. At that point I switched to the NJ broadcast, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to the call of Chico and The Man; one of the best broadcasting teams in the game.

If you want annoying, flinty, lispy voice, Chico IS the man for that. Dude is more drunk that Roby when he is broadcasting. You have to give this guy a little bit of a break. He may be a hockey guy but he has never called a sabres game. I'm sure he crammed the night before to try and remember names with numbers. He is bound to make a few mistakes. he was NO RJ (there will never be another RJ) but I could get use to him, if needed. He better than 1/2 of the announcers throughout the league.

Plus, he was 100 times better the Kevin Sylvester

I got the feeling he was trying to do to much. He was blurting out a lot of little stats and stuff that Harry usually does, and much of it felt forced and out of place.

I mean really, you're doing the Sabres home broadcast. Do you need to remind us about Lindy's tenure or his Jack Adams award?

Keep it simple my friend. :)

I liked him. He did read off a lot of stats, but some of the things he said I didn't know before and found it interesting. During the 2nd period, my mom was like, "Sounds like somebody got a new stat book for Christmas!"

He definitely was more suited for a VS/NBC/national-type broadcast - said a lot of things that were like, "well, duh."

But I'm not going to fault him, seeing as he filled in at the last minute. I didn't even mind the mistakes, as he's not a guy that usually announces for this league and was filling in at the last minute.

He is a reporter for the Score which is Canadian..How the hell can he be a NJ homer? I heard how he said Brodeur's name and he pronounced it the correct way (french pronounciation). The second comment should be considered as a joke and nothing more.

After watching the game last night I now know the life story of every player. Where they grew up, when they were drafted, who they were drafted by, what their Mom's maiden name is...

I noticed the Timmy/Miller thing. That was freaking hilarious.

He sounded like he was doing a national broadcast. He called it EXACTLY like a Versus or NBC guy.

I thought he did very well for a one-time assignment with a team he doesn't work for.
