It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

Phaneuf is young, tough, and has the ability to be a Top 5 NHL defenseman. You make that trade if you're Toronto...why Calgary wanted to deal him for minimal returns is hard to understand.

Money dump?

Not from the leafs. It was a pretty straight forward deal, 4 players for 3. Nothing else to it. Break in the press conferance as Burke said that another deal will hopefully be confirmed shortly. Im guessing it's toskala to the ducks for giggy and who knows what else :S

LOL!!! Brian Burke is a genius alright...lets see here, trade away;

Hagman- 40-45 points per year
Stajan-50-60 points per year, just entering his prime
White- Brilliant Offensive defensive man, just entering his prime
Mayers- A gritty veteran forward, on a team full of young players

and adds

Some AHL scrub, A defensive man who has an apparent attitude and work ethic problem, and a Swedish forward that can't score worth a lick

Giguere??  Toronto you need help, Giggy is about as bad as Toskala. One good trade followed by a pretty dumb trade.

I think it's time for Darcy to start making a couple of moves that need to be made.

Phaneuf has been listed by several people as a distraction to that team, and sited as having poor work ethic, and a bad attitude. I'm not entirely shocked he was moved, I thought Jokinen would be moved first though.

W L OT SV % GAA

V. Toskala 7 12 3 .874 3.66

J. Giguere 4 8 5 .900 3.14

As of today and this deal seems to be all but done as Anaheim has announced on their website that they have signed Hiller to a 4 year extension.

It has to be, when I first heard this about 30min I was thinking Kadri was for sure going to Calgary.

Toronto playing Fantasy Hockey trades with their roster doesn't mean Darcy should just jump in the pool.

If something is there, and it makes sense, he'll do it.

Oh don't get me wrong I don't want Darcy to make any random big trade. I agree if it's a good deal it should be made, I just believe he may want to start looking around

"Plus, Toronto FAN radio's Howard Berger is reporting that the Leafs have sent goalie Vesa Toskala to the Anaheim Ducks for J.S. Giguere and a 1st round pick."

Is today a day to make stupid trades or what??

Giguere is not that good but why would Anaheim give a 1st round pick for Toskala??? WTF???

Toskala for a 1st alone would be a win for Toronto...throwing in Giguere makes it a total ripoff.

You are right but they have to maxed out to the cap and they are in last in the east.

With money not being an issue can Brian Burke be moving out cap to potentially sign Ilya Kovalchuk?

Nope, they added nearly 12.5M in salary and only moved out about 10, they actually took on cap with this trade, and are right at the limit.

In other words, Toronto = SCREWED
