no. its more trouble then its worth. bishop would have to sand it down and remove the padding and buttons, taping over other things.... that alone is a day or two of work.. its not just simple sanding, it has to be a weak grade so it takes FOREVER. and im sure warwick helps out miller any way he can. my guess is miller doesnt do a new mold every year.

remember a few years ago, miller had a winter classic mask made for one game, and an all-star game mask made. he wouldnt skimp on the olympic mask.

also, most mask artists wont repaint a mask they previously painted.

but check out these barf pads. same CCM vector 10 pad base, new graphics by RBK.

Those are the pads he's wearing in the team photo this year. Those are awesome pads.

If that's the case I think it's very rude that he didn't even consider giving them to me.

I have a stick from Dominik Hasek that says "best wishes".

Anyways...look what I just ordered. :D :D :D

Image

I'm sooo excited!! I've called EVERYWHERE looking for it, and all the sports stores in Buffalo told me they are just getting youth sizes, or like XXL sizes. So I decided to check NHL.com again for the hell of it and viola, there it was! It's backordered till the 15th, but I'm so glad that I actually got it!

If anyone is going to buy one, if you sign up on NHL.com, you automatically get 10% off your next purchase. And use this coupon code I found: AFFTP7 It takes 20% off your order in addition to the 10% that NHL.com gives you.

while you do have a point about sanding down the mask and all, the artists will do it when needed. it isnt really cost effective not to and you would lose out on some non-NHL clients. the Olympic mask probably a new on though. he probably still has his failed mask at home or something.

If you're making that kind of money it's not like a new mask for a huge game would really be a huge deal.

Heck if I wanted a mask painted and was in the NHL I'd tell them go ahead and put your name on it, because I'll take care of the fee for it since you did paint my mask.

I don't think he would have Bishop repaint his Japanese mask, he really liked that one. Although he doesn't wear it anymore, I'm sure he still has it.

Bishop has his name on the mask that Miller wears...it's on the very top on the crown of the mask.

my understanding is two things: they wont sand down a mask used in the NHL twice, because each time, you take a little more off, which could compromise the safety of the mask. nhl used masks have to be a certain certification, and painting it once nearly disqualifies some. also, doesnt the paint erode the mask ever so slightly? this is my understanding.

and when i said they wont paint over the same mask twice, i meant in the pros, where they get the mask for free, or at least the NHL team picks up the bill.

yahoo did a story on the mask figure i'd post it.

Have a look at Ryan Miller's Team U.S.A. goalie mask
By Trey Kerby

Ryan Miller is the goalie for the Buffalo Sabres, and this February he will be repping the United States to the fullest as the number one netman for the national team. And when I say he's repping the U.S. to the fullest, I mean it. Have a look at that mask.
It doesn't get much more American than Uncle Sam with a tattoo, about ready to layeth the smack down.
Designed by Warwick Mask & Equipment, Inc. in Port Huron, Mich., the mask features that fearsome Uncle Sam, along with Olympics logos, and patriotic sayings that aren't pictured but are probably pretty fearsome in their own right.
In addition to Miller's mask, the shop will be doing the Olympic masks for Russia's Evgeni Nabokov and the Czech Republic's Tomas Vokoun. They'll also be doing a custom guitar for Nickelback to use at the closing ceremonies, but let's not hold that against them.
Miller has been getting his masks from Warwick for years, dating to when he was a teenager. Because of this owner Gary Warwick, Sr. and painter Ray Bishop have the utmost respect for the goalie. Bishop told the Times Herald that Miller is "really good with ideas," and that he "will sketch stuff up even. He's not a bad artist himself."
Looks pretty cool to me. What do you think?

I love the random crap Yahoo has on its first page as "news."

Not complaining this time around, though. :D

I doubt the paint would erode away the mask, if they aren't using some sort of plastic paint that bonds to plastic they have to scuff the surface of the mask, but then again they wouldn't cheap out on paint.

I also don't believe paint has an acidic side to it, it might but I've never heard of paint eroding away plastic, only adding to it.

the mask isnt plastic. its fiberglass or kevlar. it may not erode it much. still, each time you sand away, you sand away the paint, and a small layer of the mask. hence why most nhl masks are not painted twice.

You wouldn't need to sand away the paint to repaint it, I don't see why you would really need to?

Maybe sand off the clear coat but that would be all you would probably do, but in the NHL, there is no need to reuse the mask again, just get a new one.

You can just scuff the paint that's already on there, and I know about painting and how it needs to be rough when it's a plastic type getting painted, or whatever the mask it made of.

I want to finger paint. I would probably finger paint a butterfly or a rainbow. And a tree.
