I'm a huge fan of Michael Crichton (RIP)...

His ability to research technical topics and convey then in a way that is interesting is nothing short of astounding.

He was a doctor (M.D.), and published his first novel WHILE STILL IN MED SCHOOL...

I find THAT astounding. I mean, who the hell has time to write a novel while in med school?

I thought he had a Medical Degree, but wasn't sure. Yeah, that is amazing.

If I ever get into writing dramatic fiction set in present day (i.e. not making shit up as I go because its my own created fantasy world), I would aspire to be like him. The level of reasearch he does is fantastic, and he does a good job of fitting it in without it being cumbersome or confusing.

Sphere is one of my all time favorite books.

My favorite *used to be* The Andromeda Strain... His book 'Next' has taken reign there though. His latest (last?) is pretty entertaining, though completely outside his typical genre... not much scientific research, much more story. It's called The Pirate Latitudes.

Off the top of my ehad I have read...

Disclosure
Jurassic Park
The Lost World
Sphere
Congo (another fave)
Next
Prey
The Global Warming one, forget the title.
The time travel one, again I forget the title.

I have eaters of the dead, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I'm probably forgetting a few as well.

While reading Next, did each of the last 8-10 chapters pretty much have you say "holy shit"...

Timeline was the time travel one, the global warming one was State of Fear. Congo is a spectacular read. You NEED to read the Andromeda Strain if you haven't..

I knew it had fear in the title haha. I think Next is the most recent one I've read, and yes they did.

I think my three favorites are Sphere, Congo, and Prey in that order.

I'll stop saying [title] was good, I think all of his books have been amazing.
